Lets hope they have their pens handy and at the ready... then in 90 days, no more AFL for LPR's

April 18..Speaker signed......April 19..President signed....Well anybody know where 1052 goes from here....

FYI on where this will go now:

A Friend said:
Governor's actions : The Governor reviews the bill. The Governor may decide to sign it, veto part of it, or veto all of it. If the Governor vetoes part or all of it, the Legislature may vote to override the veto. (That happens rarely.) If the governor does not act on a bill after the allotted number of days, it is as if it was signed. From the Governor's desk, bills go to the Secretary of State who assigns a session law chapter number. The Chapter to Bill Table (available on the Bill/Law Cross Reference page http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/crossref.aspx ) lists the bills that have passed the Legislature, the chapter numbers assigned by the Secretary of State, vetoes, short descriptions, and the effective dates.

Looks like it is headed to the Governor although it is not scheduled for action yet. I believe that she has 5 business days to sign the bill, or it automatically becomes law.

AFL - new pistol

I got my AFL a few weeks back and now am a tremendously happy new owner of a Taurus 24/7 pro 9mm I purchased at a local gunstore last week.:):)

Finally, from the Legislature's website:
OTHER THAN LEGISLATIVE ACTION
Apr 25 Governor signed.

Thank you very much everyone who worked on getting this done, including SAF, NRA, and lawsuit plaintiffs who seem to have given Washington the kick it needed to finally correct this problem.

Does anyone know for sure when this new law becomes effective?

So, July 24th is 90 days. Anytime after is good. Guess my wife may as well just wait until then instead of going the AFL route now.

I would wait a little more than 90 days before you actually go out and purchase a gun. You have to get these stores to be ready for the new law. A week after I received my AFL, I went to Sportsmanswarehouse and asked if they were aware of the AFL. The guy behind the counter answered me sternly, "If you are not a US citizen, you cannot buy a gun". I answered him politely by saying that the State had already issued the AFL. He then just told me that he has not heard of anything about it. I just took my business in another gunstore and purchased a Taurus.

The Bill will eventually become a law, how long it takes to trickle down to the FFL's may take some time. I hope not too long...

If you have a green card you are considered a US citizen with the provisions that:
  • You CANNOT vote
  • You CANNOT hold public office

That's it. You can go out, and if you can afford it, you could buy a crate of any off the shelf firearms.

The guy behind the counter answered me sternly, "If you are not a US citizen, you cannot buy a gun".
*************
That's funny, because the FFL where I had my firearms shipped to after I received my AFL a few weeks ago said the same thing. :)
I just out and said that he was wrong. He then replied that he has been doing this for 30 years and only US citizens can purchase hand guns. I just laughed and showed him my CCW application that I was on my way to the KKSO to drop off. Showed him where it asked for my AFL number and expiry date and asked him why it would ask for that if I couldn't purchase a hand gun. He just gave me a blank look. Meantime, this redneck type guy was mouthing off about how he heard on the news that somebody who broke into a guys house that morning had just been shot in the neck and the owner of the house chased him and proceeded to shoot him again in the back. He was quite happy about it and re-iterated that he would do the same. (attempted murder) After this guy left, I asked the old man behind the counter if he would feel better about selling that guy another gun instead of myself, who had just jumped through all the legal hoops for an AFL. I Just got another blank stare from the old guy. :)

EXCELLENT!! This feels like "my rights" were restored. I pay my taxes.....more than you want you want to know, and felt that I also had the right to bear arms. This is a dream come true!

How long has it been taking you guys that have applied for a carry permit to get it?
Been almost 3 weeks since I applied at the KKSO and still nothing.

Dont you love it when a plan comes together

I just want to add my thanks to everyone that participated in getting this law changed , especially MDW , I dont have the spare cash to get the ccw yet but the paperwork is filled out ready , according to my sheriff here in thurston co. it should only take a couple of weeks to process so I would give it at least a couple of months judging on how fast the wheels turn .:neener:

So let me get this straight: After July 28, or some time near then, my wife, who has a green card, can go out and purchase and possess a firearm in Washington State without an AFL?

"How long has it been taking you guys that have applied for a carry permit to get it?

I received my CPL 1 week after I applied for it. What may have helped in its speedy response was that I also received my AFL 2 weeks before, 1 week after I applied for it. Sometimes it could also be how efficient the Law Enforcement office is. The Benton County Sherriff office clerks where very friendly, accommodating and didn't seem to be busy.
