I got a solicitation today from NRA giving me a $400 check towards a life membership, so 600 bux for the Life membership...anyone else get this?? Im thinking of doing the easy pay, what the heck, wont be no big deal... whatchoo think?

The only better price I've seen is when they offer legacy memberships to existing life members for ~350. The paperwork says the legacy membership is only for family, but when I called and asked they were happy to enroll non-relatives to boost membership.

So, if you don't know any current life members with legacy offers sitting around the 600 is a good deal if you want to be a part of the NRA.

*Puts on the flameproof jacket*

I'm not a fan of the NRA. Not going to go into why, because I'm sure I'll already be getting flamed for failure to speak kindly of them in the first place. I will, when finances allow, be purchasing life memberships for my fiancee and I with another group. Which one hasn't been decided yet, but it will not be the NRA.

While I disagree with some of the things they do, it is better than the alternative..so the best solution is to join ALL the Pro 2A lobbyist groups...

If you're already a member call them if you don't get something in the mail.

I got the Legacy Life offer for my kids and really want to do it. However, they only want to let me have one. That won't work. When I call them I'll ask for 2 or nothing. Hopefully, they'll see it my way. Otherwise, I'll wait for the next offer.

There will be another offer I'm sure.

I've been offered up to 4 legacy memberships per offer and received two offers in the past two years.

Wow, that's a better deal than I got. I finished paying off my Life membership about 6-7 years ago. I recall it was $750 at $25 a quarter. And then let the solicitations begin!!!

Someone asked me why I joined the NRA if I don't like it so much. My reply; It's the only NRA in town.

Also putting on my flame proof jacket. Any gun owner that does'nt belong to the NRA or simular org. is a freeloader. The few bucks is nothing and without them, you could'nt own a B-B gun. Look at Britain.

Disagree if you must, but...

If you're not a member you're part of the problem...not part of the solution.

All I know is that some time back in the late 90s, like Omaney, I paid about $750 to convert my annual membership to a lifetime membership by means of $25 quarterly payments. It's been all paid off for a while now. I occasionally send in a contribution.

I just got a legacy offer in the mail today for $300.

USMC Retired, thanks for the post, I will definitely look into it, near heard that before.

Freeloader? Part of the problem? Give me a break. Just because I'm not a member of whatever pro-gun organization you believe in I'm a FREELOADER?

I'm sorry, but I don't have a high-road response for that.

Suffice to say, I live in a state where a fair bit of anti-gun legislation is "test-driven' before it's attempted nationwide. I ROUTINELY do my part to write, call and otherwise do everything I can to inform the lawmakers in this state about what the gun owners who live here will and will not stand for. I helped (successfully, mind you) to keep the lawmakers in Maryland from enacting a state-wide Assault Weapon Ban some months back, and I did so proudly, with NO help from the NRA, or any other national pro-gun organization.

So please, don't talk to me about being a freeloader, or part of the problem, because I can assure you than I most certainly am NOT. And truthfully, it's a shameful thing that on a forum dedicated to bringing together gun owners in an environment of knowledge and (at least) common courtesy, there are people who would use that language to describe their fellow community members who they essentially know NOTHING about.

Well, you know, if you take a look at your first post in this thread about NRA Life memberships, the first thing you say after putting on your flameproof jacket is "I'm not a fan of the NRA." Okay, but nobody asked. That wasn't the question, was it?

What kind of response were you expecting in a thread about NRA memberships when you have nothing good to say and don't attempt to answer the question about the $600 membership?

I don't believe one should become a life member of any organization. Once you become a life member you loose almost all negotiating rights, because you have no bargaining chips. If tomorrow they decided to endorse the semi-auto ban the monthly members have the option to stop paying dues causing the NRA to loose members, but the life members are stuck being used as a statistic of the NRA membership. I am a member of the NRA and renew at my local gun show every year for $25 along with getting into the gun show for free, which makes the value $20 per year. Assuming I live a long life I will only be paying a little more for my membership along with keeping my right to have control over what I am associated with. Just my $0.02.

Got their letter today.
Sent it back with the $400 NRA discount and the first $25 toward the $600 balance.
Figure at my age, if lucky, I'll break even.
And without the NRA where are we?I don't agree with all their ideas but no other gun rights organization puts the fear of God into people like Feinstein,Schumer and Hillary. They are the 800 pound gorilla.
We need them. They need us.If you can manage it(and they've made the terms easy ,$25 every quarter)go for it.The younger you are,the better the deal is.

I expect to be respected enough not to be called a freeloader, or part of the problem. Hell, if nothing else IGNORE ME if what I have to say isn't what you want to hear. But to call someone things like that when you don't even know them, or ANYTHING about what they do to help the RKBA, is ignorant, insulting, and pointless. If you read my comment, I made a point to not go into why or why not I was a fan of the NRA. I did so out of a respect for those who are, and because I didn't want to start some pointless go-around. And you see where that got me. Sure, it may not have been on topic, or ultmately very helpful, but it doesn't deserve to be responded to the way it has been.

Sadly, I have much the same view. I could easily plunk down the cost of lifetime membership but that level of commitment to an organization that I don't always agree with is hard. So they get my money (and I pay for my kids who are also proud members) every year. My FIL who had quit about a decade ago due to all the annoying requests for money recently rejoined. He requested no additional mailings. This is a good thing that they have done... market research pays.

I got a renewal letter a couple of days ago but there was nothing in it about a $600 dollar life membership upgrade. Is everyone getting these or is it more selective?
