So, what what did everyone think? What guns did you "discover"? What amazed/flabbergasted you? What guns did you finally get to handle? What will you buy next based on your survey? What's going to be the next big thing?
I finally got to get my paws on the Masada and have to admit that Magpul seems to have reinvented the wheel and broken away from the long AR15 plateau. Yes, even an old cynic like El Tejon has to admit that I was very impressed by handling, but have not yet shot it.
A rep from Magpul told me two things that reassured me about this weapon: 1. it was purchased by Bushmaster to produce, not sit on a shelf and act as a fence, 2. Production runs should begin late fall and units shipped 4th quarter of '08, retail of 1.5K.
If this gun runs, it could be a very big deal.
I was very impressed with Smith and Wesson. Classic solid designs coupled with some great innovation. I was impressed with the M&P .45, very solid, durable weapon. Not a big fan of that type of trigger but I grew up with a 1911. With training and practice it should be manageable.
The rep spent about 10 minutes with me going over the Thunder Ranch Special revolver. Again, I was impressed and plan on picking a couple up this year after my A list is filled.
A swung by Nighthawk and just stood and drooled. Microtech's AUG copy was not next door to Nighthawk. Looks good and they answered my questions without pause. A Microtech is on my B list.
I handled my first STIs and was impressed. Decent weapons for the money. Check out the Spartan, a 1911 for 6 bills and you just have to remove the goofy sights and the guide rod. Heck of a weapon for the denek.
I swung by Heckler und Koch, but did not touch anything. I only stayed long enough to enter a raffle (on the entry slip I wrote "because you suck and we hate you" and dropped it in).
Who is not making AR15s? Charles Daley, ParaOrdance, Century, inter alia. My 70 year old mother is making ARs in her basement now.
I talked to the guys at DPMS about them bringing back the AP4 (for my nephews). They advised no dice as they are 18K back ordered on complete rifles and 14K behind on lower receivers. (yes, I remember the numbers correctly). DPMS reps told me that they are making 1K rifles a week with increased production runs to come. Thank you, Bill Clinton, for arming us like no other politician has!
I talked to Sig Sauer about the possibility of bringing out their 556 in Swiss furniture as the SIG Euro or SIG International or whatever (there was another exhibitor that was making Swiss furniture). The reps told me to e-mail SIG SAUER and request this. So, I'm spreading the word.
Great show, I had a great time both at the law seminar, at the Expo Hall and, especially, after hours.
