What is the law in Ohio re: using lethal force in self defense? For example, if an intruder breaks into your house, shoots at you, and heads for the door can you shoot him in the back when he is fleeing without fear of prosecution.

I believe Texas has an affirmative defense in that if someone breaks into your house you can shoot them without fear of prosecution.

Nope. Their no longer a threat then. You gotta let them go. You even have to retreat if someone is breaking into your home. You can only shoot if your cornered and in fear of great bodily harm or death.

Also if your you hear a noise or something like a B&E, if you go liiking for someone with a weapon you are considered as escalating the situation.

Although I was quite distrested when my family moved from Ohio to Colorado in 1975, its dren like Ohio's 'self defense' laws that make me damned glad they did.

Of late, I'm starting to think that classifying unwanted intruders as free cat food a good idea.

Not quite.

You do have to be able to articulate fear of physical harm, but once in your house, you don't have to retreat further.

IANAL, YMMV, etc.
