OK Gov Vetos Non Licensed Carry Bill

The Oklahoma state NRA affiliate, by its opposition to constitutional carry, gave the governor political cover to veto the bill. Sounds to me like some people, with influence in that organization, had a vested interest in mandated training.

Wouldn't be the first time that's happened. Greed knows no political boundaries.

I am more interested in open carry than permit requirements. I don't want to carry openly, but I don't want to be arrested if a circumstance arises in which I can't cover the gun for a while.

I could just imagine some idiot going into a LGS buying a new handgun, and never having fired it, or any weapon for that matter, and going out in the street with it. Come on I'm a Lifetime member of the NRA, and I could see the danger of someone who has no knowledge of a firearm obtaining one. IMHO that person would definitely be a danger to himself and others, especially after watching some of the shows on TV. Believe me having been a CCW instructor for the past 15 years, I've seen some real bozo's handle every thing from a .380-.45acp, who never had any training in the use of a firearm. Needless to say I've recommended they take a Firearm Familiarizing class first prior to applying for a CCW. I do appreciate there enthusiasm for trying to protect themselves and others, however proper training with the use of a firearm is paramount to a safe handling of the firearm.
