Don't get me wrong..I like to hit the target of course...but I still like the boom and kick..

Well then... Here is your only answer, the only answer you will need.

Get the .22 and shoot it, but after every shot, you can have Dick Butkis kick you in the shoulder while firing off a firecracker....

There ya go. The answer to it all.

I have achieved Nirvana.....

or, you could just buy whatever you want to shoot.

.22s are a load of fun. I am thinking about getting another one. If you don't already have one you should get yourself one. Ammo is cheap and they are great for plinking and target shooting. While your at it, get a rifle and a handgun....

I'll just say this:

I went shooting today up in the mountains with some new friends/ex-strangers. We shot the following:

Bohica Arms Far 50 (.50 BMG rifle)
AK-47
16" Customized M4gery
Two different AR-15 Std. A2 20"
SKS
Mosin-Nagant 91/30

Considering such, the most fun I had all day was shooting:

an iron-sighted .22LR military training rifle w/ a five round mag

and

a Ruger 10/22 w/ a 4X scope

Why? I have no idea. That's just what happened. :)

I agree with just about every other poster so far: You should get one just for the sheer enjoyment of shooting.

Now if I could only convince myself that I need to buy a .22...

:D

practice, practice, practice...

I have several weapons and shoot them as much as I can afford to. The .308, 6mm, 9mm, 12 ga, 30-06, .223 and .44 I cannot shoot nearly as much as I would like. The 22's, however; I can aford to shoot a lot. I concider myself a pretty good rifle shot. That is because I have shot more rounds with a 22 than I can even begin to estimate. when I shoot the 22, I practice the same breathing, sighting, trigger control and positions that I do with a high powered rifle. Unless you are very wealthy, most folks cannot afford to go through thousands of rounds of high power rifle ammo. I know that I can't. But I can shoot up a whole bunch of 22's. Kind of like a hitter going to the batting cage.

If you need to be convinced by the chatter of folks who frequent this forum, you are beyond help ... and helping. The .22 is a time-honored round that can provide hours of inexpensive training -- and fun -- at the local range. But I'll wager that you already knew that.

Hmmm.....my last purchase was a .22LR. That makes six that I have. There is no better fun than a .22LR, be it rifle or handgun. I think everyone should have at least 2, one of each. If you're bored with .22s, try something like an Anschutz or another tack driver, and try your luck at one-holing at 100 yards. Actually I've tried this with my old Stevens #34, and I'm quite amazed at the accuracy of the lowly .22. My neighbor and I spent 5 hours at the 100 yd range with just our .22s, and had a blast. Actually, I'm going to spend some more money on a decent scope for mine, since I know what it is capable of when I do my part. Carrying a good .22 pistol through a huge forest is also one of the things I did many years ago. Targets of opportunity appear in gulleys and two-tracks endlessly. But even at an indoor range, I seem to be able to put at least 200 rounds through a .22 or two to my feeble 40 or 50 rounds through my carry weapons. It's usually my final weapons, and it's actually quite relaxing.

Get the .22 and shoot it, but after every shot, you can have Dick Butkis kick you in the shoulder while firing off a firecracker....

LOL

To save money, just have him clap his hands over your ears instead of the firecracker.
