Old model Blackhawk

3 screw much like a traditional colt saa, hammer brought to half cock unlocks the cylinder instead of opening the loading gate.

Unconverted 3 screw has no transfer bar, and hammer must down on an empty chamber for safe carry. They have the 4 clicks when you thumb back the hammer. Easier to work on since there's no transfer bar.

Older rugers, blued models, tend to be finished better. 3 screw Super Blackhawks are the pinnacle of blued Rugers imo.

well thang! 3 Screw is the way to go then! I dislike a transfer bar

I would love a 9mm cylinder but alas it will likely never happen as this gun will certainly not be returning to the mothership while I am the owner. Ruger is no longer offering the cylinder.
If the gun didn't first leave Ruger as a dual cylinder, you are SOL.

I want a .45 ACP cylinder for my BH .45 Colt.
Had a Vaquero with both, but preferred the BH, over the smaller, NM Vaquero. Found a 4 5/8 BH, sold Vaquero. Checked with Ruger, wanted to send .357 and .45 Colt. Not available.


Love the 3-screw, I have 3. Plus, 5 NM, with transfer bar. Both have their good points.
IF you send a 3-screw to Ruger, it will come back with a transfer bar installed.

I bought a Uberti SAA clone recently that comes with 357 and 9 cylinder. I do like their version of a traditional hammer. Floating fire pin until the trigger is pulled back
 
Nice score! I had a Blackhawk in 357 just like it in the late 1970s when I was a teen. I stupidly sold it to a friend. I was raising money to buy Cherry Bomb glasspacks for my Mustang. Looking back now, I should have sold something else... like my little sister.

Well that’s a shame to hear but it doesn’t break my heart. I’m more of a rimmed cartridge guy anyway.
I am aware that ruger will do the conversion if they get their hands on it, thus my insistence that they won’t be getting it back.

Late bloomer, huh? I got my very own for Christmas at 11 so I wouldn't wear out my dad's Remington Model 12 which I used a LOT. I grew up on a farm and it was out the door with a 22 rifle ever spare minute I could get as soon as I was able to hold up that little Remington. As soon as I was large enough to drive a tractor I usually had a rifle laying across my legs just in case a pest popped up. Tractors were open air affairs back in those days.
 
I agree with the old three screws being the smoothest Ruger SA revolvers. My four with transfer bar safeties are very nice, but the Old Model has an obviously better trigger. I'm not trying to CCW a 7.5" 44 magnum, so the lack of a transfer bar doesn't bother me. :)

I grow up with a homemade Crossbow, Black powder, & radio controlled devices, Estes rock motors, igniters, electric tape!

I bought a three screw Super Blackhawk in .44 in 1972, during the early "Dirty Harry" .44 magnum craze. Manufacture date was 1969. It was NIB. Traded it off in '78 for a semi-auto shotgun. Dumbest thing I ever did and the last gun I ever sold/traded.
