I have never purchased a firearm over the net but now see a Savage 25 Light Weight Varmint in 223 offered for $450 by an out-of-state pawn shop that evidently does a lot of business in 'pre-owned' rifles, pistols, and revolvers and I am tempted. After an upbeat description of the rifle they state that the gun is in excellent condition. These people have a 100% positive rating after several hundred transactions. My question for this community is . . . do on-line used rifle purchases usually pan out or are they all too often a hassle, headache, and ultimately, more bother than they're worth? Also, what experience does anyone have with the Savage 25 Light Weight Varmint with a 24" medium weight barrel chambered in .223?

I buy most of my guns online, and while the majority have been new, I've probably had 6-7 used guns mixed in there. I've never had a problem, but I scrutinize the sellers pictures and ask questions before I buy. If worse comes to worst, and there is a blatant lie about the condition, you can always decline the transfer to yourself and have your ffl send it back, in fact you really need to inspect the firearm thoroghly BEFORE starting your 4473.

A perfect rating on GunBroker with several hundred reviews, in conjunction with good pictures would go a long ways towards making me feel comfortable about the rifle.

I buy used guns and other stuff all the time online, just make sure you study every picture in detail. Also make sure there isn't a portion of the gun left out of the pictures as they could be trying to sneak something past you.

Otherwise you are good to go, I've never had a problem.
