I just had a guy write me and say my order was a back order but they'd charge me today, and if I canceled there was a $5 fee. All well and good, except his website specifically said the ammo was in stock. Wouldn't have ordered if it wasn't.

I wrote him back and said he owed me a free cancellation due to misleading advertising, but I dunno if it will get me anything. I sure don't want to wait a month or more for a stupid box of .22 wmr, not like I can't buy it at Bass Pro or ten other places.

SO -- what are the best online buying sites for ammo? Fast delivery, good service, etc.....

help is much appreciated.

THANX

Make a screen shot of his webpage showing it in stock and save it. Keep a copy of the email where he says it's out of stock. Call back and tell him he can cancel the order or you'll send everything to the credit card company and they'll cancel it for him.

I agree with 1911 user.
As far as places to order online. I have only used ammunitiontogo.com and they update their site on a regular basis. Last time I ordered they said they were 9+ days behind on orders and it was correct. They never charged me until they had packed up the order and shipped it. Their selection for some calibers are not very good but check them out.

I get quite a bit from sportsman's guide, they tell you if they have it or not at least and once you make a purchase they send you discount coupons for the rest of your life...

Competition is fierce right now. Maybe you should post where this happened so we can show how bad customer service gets handled online. If he doesn't handle it correctly soon give him this post after it's been filled appropriately.

all good advice. I"ll see if he's changed his site, and maybe I can get the info on here for all to see... might help somebody..

I recently used Ammo to Go and they were delivered about 6 days after the order--not bad for the current situation. Unfortunately they are now out of what I am in the market for.

Who did you use?

I've used most of the more-popular sites and have not had any issues. Sportsman's Guide, Cheaper Than Dirt, Wideners, Ammo to Go, Ammoman, AIM, etc.., they are all seeing shortages and most will either backorder for you or notify you when they will ship (sometimes delayed). Seems like more often lately CTD won't backorder and their stock is getting pretty spartan, but at least they update their site and show what's in stock and what's not...

Buyer Beware, I agree But...

Only buy from web sites that don't charge your card until they ship. If your not sure what thier policy is, call them and ask. If they don't answer on the first couple of rings, or if you end up leaving a message durring business hours. RUN! Run like hell. If they don't have good customer service before the sale, then the service will suck afterwards.

Just a thought

I have an order pending with an online vendor that seems to have a good reputation, and unusually my credit card was charged on the day the order was placed. They state it will take more than one week to ship the order out, and when I called they confirmed that the order will be filled. Their website does not take backorders, and while their website currently lists the product if you try and order it the order is rejected before you checkout due to no stock. Well see what happens - this is my first order with them. Given the workload these places are under I'll give them the benefit of the doubt just now.

I guess that leaves Wideners out. To my amazement and disappointment this is what they have posted on the site.

ORDERS WILL BE BILLED TO YOUR CREDIT CARD ON THE PROCESSING DATE NOT THE SHIP DATE.

It may take 5 days to get your order processed once you have submitted it to our system.

It will take Approx. 18 days to ship on new orders placed.

We are not accepting any inbound phone calls at this time

well...

...if you haven't been buying ammo online, then you have no reference...
Wideners is first rate and has always been a good vendor...
This is just a real busy time of year, made more so by all the idiots speculating in the post election madness...Don't get into the frenzy mode and be patient...If you can't wait to place an order, just order what's in stock and wait your turn...There are people buying pallets of everything...
It'll get better...or it won't...If you waited 'till now to "stock up"...you waited too long... rauch06.gif

Correction. Wideners WAS first rate, I agree. But now I guess they are 2nd rate. You can't charge people for goods you don't even plan on shipping for 3 weeks and also refuse to take phone calls and be considered a top tier vendor. 2nd rate is a generous rating IMO.

that one bit about charging first and shipping 18 days late means one of my favorite vendors. gets no more orders from me.

That's what I like best about midway, they don't charge until your back orders ship, and the customer service is excellent.

True, but I've found their ammo prices to be a little steep, at least lately. The last ammo I bought I got from Natchez and the transaction went fine. They were out of a few things, but so was everyone else.

A few weeks ago I ordered Varget from MidwayUSA. I was notified that they didn't have it several days later, AFTER they had sent me a message indicating that it had shipped!

I was already a little put off by their charge for placing an order of less than $25 and their $9.99 powder handling fee.

I don't anticipate giving them any more of my business.

I normally buy online from Natchez, Coles, Graf & Sons, Cheaper-Than-Dirt, Sportsman's Guide, and Cabela's. This week I ordered a bunch of 9x18 from Cheaper-Than Dirt and back-ordered a bunch of .380acp from Cabela's.
Cabela's used to never be my choice for ammo. But times have changed and some cartridges are harder to find now. Since they have a solid back-order system which is easy to keep track of, it allows me to get several types of ammo on order at once. Then as it comes to them, they ship it on to me. The order shipping charge is spread out over the shipments and my card is only charged as each item ships. Always keeping back-orders active there keeps the hard to get ammo (like .380acp) coming to me regularly. I don't have to waste time and gasoline scouring the local gun shops and Walmarts. Yes, many online shops have back-order, but some are just not easy to view what's transpiring and solid like Cabela's system. Many back-order systems for ammo are a pure crap-shoot.
NOTE: 9x19, 7.62x39, and .22LR I buy locally, since that is always available around here.

I just received a shipment of ammo from AmmunitionToGo yesterday. I ordered the ammo the week before, so they must not be very far behind on getting orders out and shipped. I would recommend them.

I just bought primers from Wideners even though it said it would take a while to ship. Two days after the purchase i got an e-mail saying my order was shipped out and would be here on the 23rd of March.

I think they do the long wait thing to do a little CYA just in case they are hammered with orders. If they ship late everyone is mad. If they say it will take some time but get it sent out early everyone is happy. Like me.:)
