online buying disappointment -ammo

Southern Ohio Guns

I don't know how many folks here have dealt with them, and had a good experience, but my first encounter with them left a sour taste in my mouth for any further dealings.

I'd ordered some 7.62 x 39 mm on stripper clips on 1 March, their site showed the order pending. I tried contacting them for a week by phone, getting shuttled to hold for up to 1/2 hour before hanging up. I drive a truck, so any e-mail contact is limited through the week.

I heard nothing from them, even after an e-mail follow-up to them the weekend of 7-8 March until finally a reply that came in 15 March telling me they needed a signed ammo form and a copy of my ID. I have ordered through CTD and a few other on-line sites with no need for this requirement.

I downloaded their form, signed and dated it, made a copy of my ID for them and faxed it on 16 March, with a note asking them to contact me by phone during the week, as I was getting tired of the delay without at least minimal contact.

End of story, I finally got home early this week, and had Friday off, so I had access to a land line that I wouldn't be spending cell phone minutes on hold. I called them, and after about 40 minutes they finally got a real live person on the line with me. They informed me that the ammo I had ordered was out of stock, and asked if I wanted loose ammo to replace what I ordered. I asked if it would be the same price per round, and was told no, ammo had went up in price, so I would have to pay the higher price.

Needless to say, they lost the order, and likely my business in the future. I know everyone in the firearm industry are swamped right now, but at least I would expect to talk to a real live human in a reasonable time if I call, or a reply to an e-mail in less than 2 weeks time. And I hate to have this bad feeling about this company, as they are from near my local area, and I prefer to spend my money where it can benefit my home area.

I have used Midway almost exclusively for everything except ammo, unless it is on sale. I have never had a single problem with them, ever, and that is probably 50 or so orders. I have used natchez, cheaper than dirt, ammo to go, and R&R. Ammo to go is my first choice ammunition, Natchez second, Cheaper than dirt will be lucky to ever get my business again.

If you read their policy and still order, it's your problem, if you don't read their policy and order, it's your problem. If you follow their policy and THEY change something, like not having something is stock, it's THEIR problem.

went to Midway's site the other day; almost EVERYTHING they offer is on backorder in 9mm and .45 ... I placed an order anyhow, I don't think I was charged and it will be interesting to see how long it takes to get ... remember the good old days when range ammo was cheap and plentiful? Another bit of "change" I can do without ...

If they charge before they ship, report them to the FTC. If they post a bogus charge or "cancellation" fee dispute that charge with your credit card company!

Midway doesn't charge for backorders until they ship, but they do hit you for multiple shipping charges for multiple shipments caused by backorders -- I always cancel backorders from Midway unless I'm only ordering one back ordered thing.

I think they even give a discount for LEO & military.
Sweet, if I order from there I can help subsidize ammo for somebody else.
I found this statement disturbing because it is indicative of the depth and subtlety of the indoctrination of our society by the Socialist Leftists. Disdain for special consideration for those that perform the LE and Military work few Americans are willing to volunteer to do. Then complain about the inequality of treatment because someone is willing to show gratitude to the LE & Military instead of the freeloaders!
Class envy at its worst, IMHO.
Ufda! How deeply this is really appears to be rooted...!

I've bought online many times without problems from these sites:

AIM Surplus
Midway USA
Cabelas
Cole Distributing
Natchez
J&C Sales
Classic Arms
Wideners
CMP
Sportsman Guide
Cheaper Than Dirt
Southern Ohio Gun
Century International

I may have a problem buying from Cheaper Than Dirt again. They seemed to have go all out to create hysteria and they jacked their prices up pretty good.

AIM is always good to deal with.
