Open Carry in a Traffic Stop

Meh...

He may have known the registered owner of the vehicle had a carry permit, but not that the registered owner was the driver, nor that the registered owner was actually carrying at that time.

And even then, he may not know this unless he specifically requests that information when he runs the plates.
Believe it or not it happened on 2 different occasions years ago and two different Troopers. They specifically ask after handing them my license. I have slowed myself down these days so the chance to see if it will happen with DPS Troopers again has not happened. Different states different rules...

If you are open carrying at a traffic stop in Michigan, you better have a CPL. Even though there is no law prohibiting open carry in Michigan, I understand they define it as concealed carry as soon as you get in a car with the gun on your hip. So without a CPL in Michigan a guy open-carrying would have to unload the gun and lock it in the trunk before driving somewhere.
