I have a sig 556 and in my first match found the old eyes can't handle the 200M + stages using a holo sight. Therefore looking for an optic. 1-3x or 4x seems the way most people go. Trijicon is up there both in use and price so have looked at other scopes. IOR is up there also in price but hi marks as a scope. Burris XTR also seems fairly high in marks and a little more economical. Am also looking at Millet DMS which gets some good reviews and is economical. Am trying to keep cost down as I also have a PTR 91 that needs scoping and am thinking of IOR 2-12X or similar for it.
Realize this is a lot of ground but I would be very interested in comments as to effectiveness of alternatives especially given need for short and medium range performance for 223 in 3 gun. Comments on scoping for PTR 91 are welcome as well. I understand size and length of scope can be issue with charging handle on PTR. Changing my rifles is not an option at this point.
Thanks

gooood guuuun

At least you have a good platform in the 556, I love mine... someone else didn't, I purchased mine used of all things, never a hitch. I'm like you I cannot focus out that far with an Aimpoint, Have you considered the Leupold? At $800+ I can't as of now. Keep us informed on what you decide on and how you fair with it.

The Leupold MK 4 CQT is a good optic. It plays the part of a holo sight on 1 power, but can go up to 3 power. The circle/ dot reticle is really fast and easy to use. It also has rails so you can mount a light or a small red dot along on it. It isn't cheap though. $900 plus another $140 for a mount. The Millet Designated Marksmen Scope is a pretty decent piece for less than $300. It does a lot of the same things as the Leupold- but it isn't as beefy.
