Bottom line: I want to mount optics on my Ruger Red Label O/U shotgun for turkey hunting. Can this be done?

My particular shotgun is the All Weather stainless steel version of the Red Label. Great concept for keeping the gun from suffering from the elements, but it glows in the sun and isn't suited for concealment in a turkey blind. I put camo wrap and the Beartooth camo kit on it, but the slip-on barrel covering completely hides the target beads. If I could mount a weaver style base to the vent rib, I could explore raised optics.

I found a fantastic way to put a Weaver style base over the vent rib on a Mossberg or a Rem 870, AimTech's Rib Rider. Has anyone used something like this as a base for mounting optics on an O/U shotgun?

I certainly wouldn't.

Ribs are not designed to withstand the recoil of a 12ga turkey load, while having a heavy optical sight trying to tear itself off of the rib from the recoil.

I have used camo tape on my Browning for years during Turkey season.
Also use stick-on Tru-Glow fiber optic sights.
There is no reason to cover up the sights.

I also nixed the addons that ride over the recievers. Had the smith install a weaver via tap and drill onto the 870 and another on the wife's Moss.

They will stay where they are and hang onto whatever is hanging onto IT during heavy recoil.

I have found that my magnum shells will find a way to shake something loose somewhere on the gun. And those are for fun from time to time.
