I'm getting pretty annoyed with the Postal Service.

They delayed a Priority Mail package two weeks last year when I ordered something during the holiday season. In all fairness, last year, there was a big blizzard incident in the area of the seller, so that might have played into that one.

I ordered a handgun from a FFL seller in Kentucky last week. Shipped Priority Mail. Over the course of a week, it looks like it made it all the way to Nashville so far.

Usps and priority mail

Leave it up to a government to 'F' things up:

Anyone at the government Post Office will tell you Priority mail 3-day is not a guarantee....yet sheeple pay for it...and it looks good for the seller and make reciepent happy!

Priority mail is frosting on a turd!

The clerks do really stretch the truth about Priority Mail when asked about it. The idea is "average delivery in 2-3 days" but that's sure not guaranteed.

The one bright spot in the mail system is the flat rate boxes. I probably couldn't afford to shoot as much as I do if I had to pay UPS rates for bullets and brass all the time.

USPS Priority is 2-3 business days. Saturday and Sunday don't count.

If you want it fast, ask that it go Express Mail. You'll pay for it though.

This is also the busiest time of year for shippers, and I know FedEx at least is running things overtime. Two days last week we had deliveries at 8:45 pm and there were still plenty of boxes on the truck, so they were nowhere near done for the night.

What irritates me is this "new" way of shipping.
It goes out UPS or FedEx. Then goes to your local Post Office for last mile delivery.
2-3 days to get to the Post Office. 5-6 days to get a pink slip thing in your mailbox. Drive 35 miles to town. Park off Post Office property. Disarm and put pistol away. Go get in line that has 25-30 people in it and one Postal worker. Over an hour later you get your package. Drive 35 miles back to ranch.
EPA and Post Office can go away.

The post office is loosing billions of $'s yearly and it appears that no one at the P.O. really cares. It is sad that in the last 50 years one of the best delivery systems in the world has been transferred into a bad joke.

Is this another sign of a general breakdown of our country in general?

we have a UPS hub about 10 miles away and a couple of Christmases ago they started sub-contracting smalls to USPS now all small packages come via USPS even though they start out with UPS

FWIW I bought a new gun from GG they shipped it on Sat and I got it last night ;) way to go Fed-ex

You have to specify that you want to upgrade shipping to something other than UPS or FED-EX basic UPS prority or express will get it to your door.

Don't feel too bad - I ordered some Skinner sights and they showed as on the way per USPS tracking.

They finally arrived. A month later.

It had taken so long, I had ordered another sight (figured I'd never see the first one). The second order came the day after the first, in about the "normal" amount of time.

To their credit, the USPS called and asked if I had put the apartment number down (I did), and asked if I could call the vendor (I replied that they had done their part, and I would do no such thing). They then admitted that they had no idea what had happened. But I appreciated them taking responsibility for the snafu, and I still do.

I feel your same pain W.E.G.
I have a 1976 Marlin 336C coming to Houston from New Hampshire and it too was shipped on 12/14 and was supposed to arrive yesterday.
USPS site shows it is hanging around Dallas, but it was in New Jersey for days.
And then half the time the tracking site does not work...
Most likely we will both have ours by tomorrow...Hopefully.

Went to my FFL today.
Thought maybe it was just sitting there without anybody calling me.

FFL dug through all his stuff.

Nothing for me.

Nothing new on the USPS tracking site.

Now at 7 days (5 "business days) to get a Priority Mail package from Kentucky to Virginia - and no idea where it actually is.

It will show up. It is 5 days until Christmas, after all.

There's some bad weather around that might be playing a factor, too.

Fedex/UPS SmartPost <shudders>

Man I have PTSD from dealing with a pair of shoes my wife ordered and getting them delivered.

In fairness I often get really great service with the USPS.

The going broke also comes from dramatic drops in letters and other things that where previously mailed.

They also can't even hope to approach the horrors of A1 Courier Service that Amazon used when I lived in NYC.

A couple months ago I had a registered and insured mail package sit at a sorting facility for 6 days. I paid almost $40 to ship it and it took about 10 days total to get from IA to CA. Not too happy with the USPS on that one.

I am in the same lame boat W.E.G.
I will call my ffl guy in a couple of hours to see if it's there even though the USPS site says it departed Dallas Monday.
Lame!!

The C&R I shipped UPS to Wisconsin is now delivered to the front door of the buyer.

Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday
Virginia to Wisconsin.

The USPS web site still showing no new activity on my pistol from Kentucky.
After a full week, still lost somewhere out of Nashville.

I notified the seller today via email.

I called my ffl after lunch and my Marlin is of course not there.
Come back to the office and discover that the post office that is less than two miles from my ffl received it at 9:30 a.m. today.
Must have been carried on the backs of a team of Box Turtles as it took no less than four days to get from Dallas to Houston...A whole 250 miles.
So maybe, just maybe, tomorrow it will finally arrive.
Good luck W.E.G. and keep us informed.
