Ouch! That hurt.

Gunny I strongly believe is more an ergonomic issue between balance, size and firepower than brand. Any pistol with that dimensions are just prone to discomfort.

10 inch Thomson Center Contender, in .444 Marlin. It was a buddy's, and his hand load was 265gr bullet and a canoe-load of 4198. It felt like somebody rapped the palm of my hand with a fish billy. Nope. Here ya go... o_O

Honestly any Glock. Something about how the ergonomics fit my hand it feel like the gun is trying to bend my fingers between the joints. I've tried gen 1-4 and 9, 40, and 45 in full frame, compact, and sub compact. No combination works. Really sucks because I was looking forward to owning something with that level of after market support.

The silly little 9mm Makarov load can produce a dramatic experience from a P-64.

I managed to get through a full cylinder of full-house .357 from a S&W 640 with wooden boot grips once. The skin tore at the base of my thumb and there was blood. I won't be doing that again, ever.

Worst for me so far has been a Bond Arms derringer with 410 buckshot.

Stapled a paper target on a half sheet of plywood and was shooting about 20ft away. Flinched so bad I didn't even hit the plywood.

Do they make an XD 10mm?:D
I wish! I’ve shot the XDs in 9, 40, and 45. Never really thought recoil was bad. But not fan of the sharp textured grips. Easily fixed however. Most “unpleasant” gun I ever shot was the ported Smith 500 with 400gr Sierra’s over 40.5gr of H-110. I got through 2 cylinders and I was done.

Interesting. I don't have any problems shooting the XDs .45. In fact, I choose it for our bi-annual competency shoot for CCW over my 1911's.

The P64? A completely different animal. That thing hurts! Makarov or CZ82, no problem, but the P64 Is BRUTAL!

I was initially interested in the 45 Shield but figured it wouldn't be a gun I would want to put a lot of rounds through at the range. I haven't shot one yet but would like to try it if I get the chance. Anyone have any input on how comfortably they shoot?

In my case any blow back pistol (Bersa, Maks). However, I have no issues with big bores.

I think a lot of it depends on the shape, weight, and balance of the pistol as it interacts with the size and shape of your particular hand.

I had a SAA replica with thin grips that I foolishly shot with 44 magnum 300 grain "bear killing" loads. If felt like getting hit hard with a stick six times on my palm.

I carry my P3AT, but I know that if I shoot it much that the tiny grips and "aggressive" checkering will make my giant hand bleed. (I just shoot a few magazines at a time and am okay with that.)

I can't remember if I owned or shot... I think I owned it... some kind of inexpensive 32 caliber derringer. I don't remember if it hurt much, but I had to aim about two feet low to hit a target. That's how much it twisted in my hand.

Mine is the LCP on a cold day. 12 rds. and I have to switch to weak hand shooting. Them bones don't like the cold.

Kel-Tec PF-9 was uncomfortable. My 342 PD is uncomfortable. My Bodyguard 380 with the hot Buffalo Bore stuff is downright unpleasant.

It's small and powerful = hurt.
I have a 5" XD in .45acp and it's a pussycat no matter the load.
Ya, p64 - for a makarov it really sucks. Lousy long heavy trigger culminated by the sharp recoil just isn't worth it. I've got Makarovs and love 'em, really like the M82 (? - I've forgotten their name) 12 round pistol, it's one of the nicest shooting European surplus pistols of all. But two P64's gotta' go someplace - maybe into a hole in the field.

A friend of mine completed her ccw course using an xds .45 that she had never fired before that day. She passed easily and probably did not have 50 rounds to her name before waking up that morning. Of course, this doesn't say much for the Illinois CCW proficiency test, and her hands are larger than my own so I'd expect the gun may be even less comfortable for her.

Not an auto, but another vote for 340PD scandium .357 J frame. Can only get thru a cylinder of 158 grain JHPs before I switch to .38 ball to finish the training session. Accurate, but brutal.

Large caliber, light frame is a big no no at my age. :)

I will shoot my 45 officers model all day with no discomfort along with my 357 smith 649 but they are steel.

As czhen said, I think it must be the the size that contributed to the problem. I have the XDM in 9 and 45 but in the full size and they are pleasant to shoot. I guess the shorties are tough on the hand.

There’s a total of 4

Ruger SBH with full house 44 mags.
Contender super 16 with same full house 44 mags, and a 10”45-70 barrel too.
And anything that isn’t a 42 or 43 that says Glock on it. (Big hands and wierd bone structure, the grip rips my thumb knuckle open.)

My PF9 is rude and uncomfortable, but I can manage it well enough to trust the "me/gun" combo for self-defense.

I have not yet shot my P64. When I get around to it, I'll do it side-by-side with the Kel-Tec for a comparison.

The Shield in 45 is not bad, but in 40 it’s not so nice.

Didn't care for the LC9 I tried. The classic derringer in .38 ain't no fun. Funny thing... After a couple boxes of .22s in the Buckmark, anything larger is a wake up call.

30 rds on a full size silhouette from close, closer and closest. My instructor insisted you had to at least hit the image, but I think the book says on paper counts.
May have even been less than 30... And of course, you can qualify with whatever you like... .22 target pistol anyone?
