Just a question to throw out to you fine Americans. If I was to go to Las Vegas for a holiday can I take a CCW course while there and obtain a CC permit? Or must I be American? I think it would be pretty neat to get. Then how could Canada say I'm not safe enough to carry one here? Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge you cannot buy nor possess a handgun unless you are a legal Resident Alien or American citizen. I believe Non-Resident Handgun permits are only available to residents of the United States.

Then how could Canada say I'm not safe enough to carry one here? Thanks.

Your government can do anything it darned well wants to do because there are no checks nor limitations on the powers of government in your country. It has already sunk billions of dollars into a failed registry that has been denounced by the entire country but that hasn't stopped it from proceeding.

An acquaintance of mine is a London bobby. He obtained a CCW permit in Florida. When he visited Mickey Mouse, he did a few ride alongs with the Orlando PD. They probably helped him. I'll have to ask him.

A colleague of mine (German police) who incidently is sitting right next to me at this very moment went to NYC for a weekend last autumn. He also did a ride along with the NYPD and they temporarily issued a handgun to him for that purpose. Mind you, he wasn't there on official law enforcement business but as a tourist.

Indiana won't issue you a non-resident permit, but we'll recognize any permit that you have.

Well if anyone know a good company that does civil engineering related work, pass me along a contact. Another year and a bit and I'll be done school and ready to move if the opportunity comes up.

Not necessarily:

Significantly, even if a nonimmigrant alien falls within one of these exceptions, the nonimmigrant alien CANNOT purchase a firearm from a Federal firearms licensee (FFL) unless he or she (1) has an alien number or admission number from the Immigration and Naturalization Service AND (2) can provide the FFL with documentation showing that he or she has resided in a State within the United States for 90 days prior to the firearms transaction.

That's on the BATFE link.

(A21) Q. What type of form do I, as a nonimmigrant alien, need to file with ATF to import a firearm or ammunition? [Back]

A. You need to file ATF Form 6 Part I (Application and Permit for Importation of Firearms, Ammunition and Implements of War). The Form is both the application and, once approved, the permit you present to the U.S. Customs Service when you enter the United States. The Form 6 can be obtained by calling ATF's Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch at 202-927-8320. It also can be downloaded from ATF's Web site.

...

(A25) Q. I am a Canadian citizen, live in Canada (Windsor, Ontario), and come across the United States border to the Detroit area once a month for competitive match shooting. Can I file several import permit applications at the same time, get them approved, and then use them one at a time when I enter the U.S.? [Back]

Yes.

I think you guys are missing the point. It doesn't seem that he wants to buy a handgun, he just wants to get a CCW.

Unless I'm missing something. (it's been known to happen)

The CCW won't do him much good without a handgun, and he cannot legally obtain one in the US, unless he is either a citizen or a Permanent Resident, a.k.a. Green Card holder.

CC Permit

First off,If he owns a hand gun that he obtained in Canada he wouldn't have to buy one in the US.CC is a separate issue from purchase or importation.I used to know so guys that shot in matches in New York state and were from the Toronto area. They had CC permits from NY because it made the border crossing easier.

He could get an import permit from BATF for a gun he owns here.

I have lost track of my Toronto friends so I can't check with them to see if anything changed after 9/11.
