Just bought a EAA Witness Compact 45 auto (Tanfoglio) with 3.77" barrel and was shocked to find the Instruction Manual recommending against +P ammo in all their polymer framed pistols. :uhoh:

Questions:

* Is this a legal tactic?
* EAA is saying this to prevent possible warranty claims?
* Poly frame actually cannot handle extended +P use?
* Pistol is really up to the task of +P ammo?

Can the dual Recoil Springs be upgraded to slow the slide speed down for better protection of the polymer frame?

Thank-you in advance of your advice! :)

Steve

So if Im stuck using standard pressure ammo - not a bad thing in a 45, what loads are good to consider:

* Ranger T 230-gr. (RA45T)
* Golden Saber 230-gr.
* WWB 230-gr. from Walmart

If you can get the same gun with a steal frame as with a polymer frame, and it's Ok to shoot +P in the steel frame, then the barrel and slide are the same. The fact that those parts can handle it without blowing up, is the most important issue. Maybe THEIR polimer framed pistols CAN'T take the extra recoil, but others can, Glock for example. I would think the worst that would happen would be the rails ripping out of the poly frame, which could be unpleasant, but not overly dangerous.

My take ont his would be to fire a few boxes of +P to ensure reliability and then use +P for carry only, stick to standard pressure for practice. While I don't own a poly frame Tanfoglio pistol, I do have 2 steel models and have punished both extensively. In my 9mm, I have run hundreds of +p+++ 90 gr. handloads (avg. 1640 FPS) with no problems.(it is a Baby Eagle; still made by Tanfoglio)
