My father recently gave me a s&w 60-9. I would like to carry this gun with .357 magnum loads. The stock grips that are on it are a little too small for me, as I have large hands with long fingers. I have been looking at acquiring a set of Pachmayr Compacs. I'm wondering if any members here have any experience with the Pachmayr Compacs and j-frame snubs. I am specifically interested in peoples thoughts on .357 recoil with these grips, as well as thoughts on their concealability. Be advised, I have posted this on a couple of other forums within this site. Thanks in advance. :wavey:

I had a set on a K frame round butt 10 2" shooting a stout .38 SPCL +P+ hand load.
I have long but rather thin fingers and did not like the lack of control, with the Compacs, with a round butt it left the little finger kind of dangling and with the near .357 energy my hand loads created, I had problems with the recoil even with the full K frame. Being slim built ?concealability? was not a problem.
On a whim try the Gripper grips if they are available for the model you are interested in, they have a open backstrap design and are rather thin in the width. It may be a soultion for ?concealability? and recoil control.

No direct experience, but I've noticed that Pachmayr seems to change their Compac designs once in a while. I've seen pictures of some that resemble the ones included in S&W's Nightguard line, and I've seen some that have a little finger groove for the pinky, located about halfway back on the bottom of the grip. I don't know what new model grips look like.
I've heard j-frame Compac grips are a good compromise between conealability & recoil comfort. They're not spendy, so they might be worth a try.
The only compact rubber grips I've handled that cover the backstrap are the j-frame ones made by Crimson Trace. I found their compact model to be too short for my big hands. They're very expensive.
