My father recently gave me a s&w 60-9. I would like to carry this gun with .357 magnum loads. The stock grips that are on it are a little too small for me, as I have large hands with long fingers. I have been looking at acquiring a set of Pachmayr Compacs. I'm wondering if any members here have any experience with the Pachmayr Compacs and j-frame snubs. I am specifically interested in peoples thoughts on .357 recoil with these grips, as well as thoughts on their concealability. Be advised, I have posted this on a couple of other forums within this site. Thanks in advance. :wavey:

Well, I've owned a S&W Mod. 19 and a 686, both in .357 mag. I've tried numerous grips on them, and I always end up right back with Pachmayrs on them. In my case, both of them were the old-style square butt, so I put Presentation Grips on them. Nothing better at absorbing heavy recoil. Full magnum loads were no trouble at all.

I have rather small hands, and any other grip (Hogue, Uncle Mike's, Safariland, etc.) that I've used really whacked at my thumb joint. With the Pachmayrs, there was no pain - or any discomfort, for that matter.

Concealment issues - that's another story. The neoprene rubber tends to grab at clothing, sometimes printing the profile of your grip and advertising to the world that you're carrying. What can I say? You can't have everything. You'll have to decide whether comfort or better concealment is more important to you. I never carried, so the issue was moot for me.

Good luck on your decision.

I don't use no grip, which covers the back strap, especally on the magnum revolvers. You want your hand to get as close the bore as possible, with a high hold. Be sure the Pachmayrs do not the cover backstrap; I have a box of those I keep meaning throw away.

Your are shooting double action or single action ?
