I have a P14.45 with a way-too-easy mag release button problem. In the past, when using an IWB holster the magazine would inadvertently be released. I attributed this to a poor holster design but it doesn't happen with a Colt 1911 in the same holster. Today I was carrying the holstered ParaOrdnance in my hand out to my car and the magazine clattered to the floor.

Is it possible to change the spring in the mag release to a stiffer spring? And can a non-gunsmith like me do it without going to a pistolsmith or sending the pistol back? (at this point I would have no idea where to send it)

Easy. Just be aware that the slotted head is not a screw. It is a locking tab that takes about 1/4 turn to unlock. Press in on the mag release from the left side with your thumb to release the tension on the locking tab. Turn the slotted head with the proper size screwdriver the tab will release from the frame and the whole assembly will slide out the right side. Turn the tab the other way and the spring and locking tab will come out of the assembly. Replace the spring and reverse the process to reinstall. Takes me longer to type it than to do it.

It can also be the magazine. If the hole in the magazine wall that the catch engages is just a tad bit off, the magazine catch is barely holding onto it.

Do you have a magazine that doesn't drop out? Well, then compare that to the one that does. You might have to take a needle file to it to make it work.

I accept donations (I keeeed).

Replace the spring, but also be aware that the mag. release 'button' on the Para sits very much outboard of the slide, slide release and thumb safety. Compare it to most single stacks.

It is easier to unintentionally manipulate. The wider body of the frame (on Hi-Cap models) really exposes the release. Also, the Hi-Cap Para's use very thin (almost flat) grip panels. This also makes the mag. release easier to inadvertently hit.

I know...because I've been carrying a P-13 for 20 years.

Thank you all for the suggestions and info. I have a new spring on order from Wolff and in the meantime will experiment with each of the magazines and check the mag catch.
