I just bought a Savage Model 11 .300 WSM right-hand bolt-action. The owners manual describes the steps to remove the magazine one at a time in detail. I am positive that it stops one step too soon though.
It says:
1. With bolt closed place weapon on FIRE.
2. Lift bolt handle to upright position, but do not pull to the rear.
3. Place selector on SAFE.
4. Replace bolt handle to down position (Selector should not be at HALF-SAFE enabling the bolt to be pulled to the rear, but not allowing the trigger to be squeezed)
5. Press on magazine release and catch magazine as it's released from the rifle.
See what I mean? Step 4 makes it appear that the bolt is to be left closed when I press the magazine release, but that doesn't make a lick of sense. I have tried pressing the mag release with the bolt open and closed, but the release button will not budge.
Had anyone had a similar problem? Am I not pressing hard enough? I pushed way harder than I think should be required for something as simple as releasing a magazine.
