Pistol Caliber Carbine - Suggestions Needed

I just bought 2 1894Cs. They hold 10 rounds - mayve even 11 if loaded with shorter 38s.

The lever action and a tube mag are huge advantages regardless of ballistics.
First, it's not an "evil" semi-auto in gun-hostile locales and hence is not likely to be found on any proscribed lists. Second, In localities which limit rifle mag capacity to 5 rounds, you have 10. Better have one tube - that can be topped-off at any time - than 2 5-round mags.

<Now give me one that takes Hi Power mags, or CZ75/85 mags and I am there.>

IIRC, the Kel-Tec Sub2000 is available with Browning mag compatibility.

Well the bug with that is that the types of localities that limit your capacity usually don't allow you to transport (or store) a loaded rifle EVEN if the magazine is fixed. So in such a case, detached but quick to load box-magazines are superior to an unloaded integrated magazine.

If non-defense minded, then I fully agree, however. Those of us with round-limits enjoy the larger fixed capacity of lever guns for plinking.

A resident of New York City with a rifle permit cannot own a rifle magazine that holds more than 5 rounds.

For home defence Marlin would be superior in that case. Most if not all other guns mentioned here are on a proscribed list, regardless of magazine capacity.

In NYC, it doesn't matter since "a fixed magazine capacity in excess of five rounds" is still considered an illegal "assault weapon" so however PC your lever-action rifle it's still not PC enough in NYC. If you're going to buck the law and get what they consider to be an "assault rifle" you might as well as get an "assault rifle".

Nevermind, missed this part:
Assault weapons does not include:
any rifle, shotgun or pistol that: is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever or slide action; or has been rendered permanently inoperable.

However there may or may not be storage provisions preventing you from keeping a loaded gun on-hand in NYC.

but does yours mount a bayonet

The top-end PCC has been missed, the 5.7x28 FN PS90 (shown w/a Mini-14 for size comparison):

50rd mag, fully ambidextrous, bottom eject, very ergonomic, strips in 15 seconds, very low recoil & recovery time between shots, effective to 200m, comes w/a decent reflex sight w/tritium for lowlight use. Only major downside (IMHO) is the price...
