N82 Pro

Comfortable, made locally, and has held up incredibly well.

I've started carrying OWB more, but the N82 is the go-to IWB holster.

Buy once cry once...take it from a guy with a bunch of stuff in a junk drawer. Yes you can save a few bucks up front on a 30-50 dollar holster, but a few months in and you will be buying again due to breakage, discomfort, or poor design. I have had a lot more discomfort than breakage, and poor design plays into both of those. I ended up getting away from IWB and going to pocket holster for my little guns, and vertical shoulder rig for my bigger heavier guns.

An odd suggestion is to narrow it down to 4 or 5 different options. Look for USED versions on ebay, gunbroker, etc. What you see the least is what people are generally keeping. Go for the one you can't find on the used market.

Sam,

could you please fill us in on what the rig you use is called?

Thank You,

Sure! It's ... uh... ok, so no. :) I don't think Joel gave it a special name. It's a tuckable leather IWB, somewhat like a VersaMax II but with improvements for better tuck-ability.

There are several makers who do something like this as production items, but I will say that the hybrid versions like Crossbreed or Galco's "KingTuk" have largely superseded this style due to simplicity. They do the same thing but with quite a bit less hand work and holster craft involved in the production.

I put a lot more info on the holster and how to use it in this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=763215

I have been using an IWB holster from Kirkpatrick Leather for a few years and like quite a bit. I started carrying my 42 oz Sig 226 in it but moved to the 239 because of weight. Oddly enough the one holster works really well for both guns.
Its not tuckable, but it is comfortable.

I just received notification that my holster from Tucker Gun Leather has shipped and will be here in 3 days.
That one is a kydex/leather hybrid and it is tuckable.

I am thinking on doing a review on it when I get it.
It's called "The Answer":

I just bought a CONCEALMENT EXPRESS IWB carbon fiber holster for my Walther PPS and I feel like it's the best holster I could ever find. Fits like a glove, quality is a "10" and very thin......I find myself checking to see if my weapon is still there.
Great holster!

All my firearms are carried in a White Hat Maxtuck holster. OWB was never comfortable for me as those holsters always bounced around on my hip no matter how sturdy the belt was. I have been known to take a nap on the couch or in a chair while wearing my White Hat, that is a type of comfort I have never had with other OWB or IWB holsters.

I own several Bianchi "Pistol Pockets" and believe these are as good as it gets. Very solid, secure, adjustable, and can be carried "strong side" or "cross draw."

I find Crossbreed Supertuck and Concealment Solutions Mamba to be the best fit for me. Jason at CS is a standup guy. Highly recommend.

As others said, Crossbreed Supertuck is very comfortable. Also agree with an earlier post... Desantis Softuk is very under rated. Comfortable and affordable.

two good IWB holsters

I've purchased two IWB holster lately that have restored my faith in the breed.

First, a StealthGear Appendix for a Glock 19 (the "Appendix" designation refers to the fact this is carried on the front of the torso; i.e. over the appendix area for a righty). The holster includes a swivel so that the barrel can be rotated up when sitting, so it's not digging into your thigh. Very comfortable.

Second, a Lobo Gunleather for my S&W 686 3-inch. For this, I selected two options - an inside blade (great for keeping the holster flat against your body) and horsehide (makes it thinner). This holster is amazingly comfortable for an IWB; I thought I was nuts ordering an IWB for this gun, but it works. It fits perfectly just behind the pelvis protrusion. The only accommodation you must make is extra waistband and belt adjustment, but that will be true for any IWB holster.

I bought an Alien Gear to replace my Galco IWB that was wearing out. Came to like it very much. I find it as comfortable as my VersaMax.

I have a Taurus 455, 5 shot 45 acp, 2 inch barrel , snub nosed revolver. The holster I use is a Bianchi #3S. It has a snap on belt loop , if you want to attach/remove it without removing your belt and it has a adjustable cant. A steel ratchet mechanism that lets you tilt the pistol when sitting and then straighten it up when standing. I really like this feature. Very nice brown leather , well moulded to the gun with a thumb release strap. All in all an excellent , well made holster that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Milt Sparks. The Versa Max 2 is great and The Criterion is even better (with more forward cant).

I have a couple of different leather IWB holsters that seem fine, but I am getting ready to order an Alien tuckable - really like the reviews I have seen, and the price is right.

Milt Sparks, Summer Special II,. Versa Max, or Criterion. Check them out on line, call them to discuss pros/cons of each and order.

Tommy Theis holsters. Very well made. Very comfortable. And very reasonably priced for a holster this good.

N82 Pro

Comfortable, made locally, and has held up incredibly well.

I've started carrying OWB more, but the N82 is the go-to IWB holster.
This ^^^^^^^

I just ordered my 3rd N82 holster. This time for my Kimber Micro but unfortunately I had to opt for the original/tuckable since they don't offer the PRO model for the micro compacts.

I've yet to find a holster as comfortable as these that offer maximum protection for the gun.
