"Possibily" Stupid Fireams Quotes ?

I was at my local big box sporting goods store a few days ago and the guy at the gun counter tell a lady that " a 45acp recoils less than a 9mm". His reasoning was that a 9mm is faster.

Obviously, you missed the physics class which proves that the 9mm, being faster, will actually pull the recoil. :D :D :D

I stopped watching "The Glades", (Supposedly about the Florida Department Law Enforcement), when the main character kept asking people if their handgun was registered.

No such animal in Florida.

I can not recall the stupidest things but I do recall the last one .. In a local gun shop the owner explaining to me how the pistol in question was dead on because all the hits are in the same 1 inch pattern .. even if it is 3 inches off from the point of aim .

I don't doubt it. That's torso, as opposed to a thumb.
Probably hurt a lot, too (and was quite surprising)

My current favorite SFQ is "Molon Labe" which is about as meaningful as "ooga-booga" at this point, regardless their viewpoint. Runners-up would be the multitude of phony founders' quotes on gun rights.

I was in a gun store a few years ago. An obese, uniformed police officer from a nearby small town was in the same store. An older, disabled man went up to the officer and asked him a discreet question. I did not hear what. As I walked by, though, I heard the officer explain that if you shoot somebody, it is always best to go ahead a kill them. That way they can't sue you later.

I always wondered how you would explain locking a guy with an ankle wound in the basement while you went to Wal-Mart for more ammo, so you could finish him off.

Another quote, which I have mentioned on here before, was from some obscure, poorly written short story in the horror genre. At some point the main character "flipped the safety off his chrome Glock revolver." Wowsers!

It is my understanding that "Molon Labe" does have meaning. Roughly equivalent to "Bring it on" or "Come and get it" as an answering challenge to an opponent.

Reminiscent of General Anthony Clement "Nuts" McAuliffe's (101st Airborne Division) Dec 22, 1944 reply to the German's demand for McAuliffe's surrender during the Battle of the Bulge.

"Molon Labe" does lose a lot of its eloquence when used out of context, just as "Nuts!" does. More people would recognize the meaning of "...from my cold, dead hands.", but it does have a certain elegance, recalling as it does, King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans.

Lost Sheep

p.s. The less said about"ooga-booga", the better, I think.

A flashlight on the gun will not show a badguy where you are.
I invite anyone to break into my door at 2am (with eyeballs acclimated to the dark) and try to shoot me before I shoot you with my Surefire shining in their face.

Almost all this has been funny! But for what it's worth, I've pocket carried my SP101 3 inch revolver for at least 10 years. Really. I have no reason to fib. Don

Buddy in the 75th was told a .50BMG passing close your your head would suck out your brains because of the vacuum left in it's wake, and he repeated it as fact. I had to correct him and tell him not to believe everything he heard.

I was looking for 16ga ammo once, and was told the store didn't have it (fine, happens all the time, even before the shortage). The clerk went on from Earth to planet ***.
"You know, you can't use 16 for hunting" (it was close to bird season, good and accurate guess to my intended use)
"What????"
"You can only use 12ga or smaller"
"What about 20ga?" (not bothering to make this conversation longer and more confused with facts about how gauge is measured)
"That's ok, but I think its because it's metric"

What can you say to this? Talking about guns and legalities sometimes is like being the only sober person at the party. "You can't work on your own firearms", "Shortening a shotgun barrel (to 19") is making a sawn off, and is a federal crime", "they make guns now to go through airport detectors", "a .50 can bring down the space shuttle at launch" and anything else ever penned by "Gunkid" (can't believe I'm the first to reference the troll of trolls)

Regular blokes on other Forums:

A man looking for informations about the Kareen pistol got, among other things, a very educated answer mentioning that the double action had been much improved on the Hi-Power MkIII vs the one found on the MkII.

A shooter asking for informations about a "Hawes S.A.", or similar revolver, in .44 Magnum he had just purchased.
Two "community pillars" tactfully but relentlessly told him to better look at his gun, so that he could find the words "Ruger" and "Blackhawk" on it.
One later confessed that he thought only Ruger had ever made S.A.'s in .44 Magnum.

NooooOOW, Gun Writers, as recalled from vivid and sometimes traumatic memories....:

About the then new 29 Classic: "S&W's new offering is a (classic?) 586 chambered in .44 Magnum"...

About Twin-Guns shooting: " A potent choice, which will show your opponent that you mean business. As a matter of facts, the main character of my series of novels does it"... (The accompanying pictures of the author are forever burned in my mind).

Around '77: "The CZ75 does not bring anything new to the gun market and will therefore be a commercial failure"...

Whenever the gun came out: "44-40 cartridges are a good choice for owners of Desert Eagle in .44 Magnum who wish to practice with less recoil"...

that MIGHT b e one glock I would consider buying!

"a .50 can bring down the space shuttle at launch"
Well, that one's actually probably true :D. In fact, a 22LR in one of countless spots could probably bring it down :D

From my boss many years ago:"A .357 Swad cutter will cut a man in half."
Don't ask me what a "Swad Cutter' is.

I read this in the shotguns section here on THR a few years back and it still brings out a chuckle every time I think about it:

A member here was insisting that Mossberg 12ga. pump shotguns were way better than their counterpart Remington pump-actions "because Mossbergs are more powerful!"

"An armed society is a polite society"

"Two is one and one is none"

"It is against the Geneva Convention to shoot a person with a 50 BMG" (military)

"The cartridge is designed to wound and not kill" (said of 5.56 and a few others)

"That is because wounding one person takes three out of the battle"

"Bullets create lift. That's why they shoot high at 25 yards and don't just fall out of the barrel." No, Mr. Science, that's an angle of inclination and velocity.

"Burglars don't care about you racking that shotgun." Heard here, by the way, and I'd very much bet that any sober guy wanting a quick grab at a TV would be out of there quick, fast, and in a hurry. It's the ones not in their right mind that mean you can't rely on it.

"I said, 'Jill, if there's ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony ... take that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house. You don't need an AR-15. It's harder to aim, it's harder to use and in fact, you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself." Joe Biden

This took the cake for me.

When Mossgberg came out with 835 and Federal came out with 3.5" ammo for it that was actually true fact.

One guy at Shotgun World suggested that Mossberg was better than Remington because they made more shotguns in certain year. That is like saying Walmart shoes are better than Ferragamo shoes because many more are sold.

Several years ago I wanted my young son to take a hunter safety course so I took it with him.
It was a couple of hours each night over the course of a week. As I remember, the guy in charge was some kind of auxilliary game warden and he brought his friends and acquaintences in each night to teach a different aspect of hunting and hunter safety.
It was all I could do to keep silent on some nights. One night a particularly uninformed clown was "teaching" about shotguns.
A kid in the class asked "what's the difference between high brass and low brass shells ?". The "expert" replied "not a thing, it's all just marketing."
I had to bite my lip on that one.

"My uncle in the military said...". That one is always going to be good.
"Glocks melt" - often repeated by the older guys
"Plastic guns are garbage and unreliable" - refering to anything that is newer than an M1 garand.

Guy comes in looking for powder.

"Have any Yoo-nuh-Q?"

I thought for a second and asked, "do you mean Unique?"

He says, "Hey, to-MAY-toe, to-MAH-toe..."

"Have any Yoo-nuh-Q?"

I can't imagine Hercules/Alliant ever thought they'd sell a powder that could be mis-pronounced "eunich." :scrutiny: :D
