Primers in stock, prices going back up

I picked up primers at Sportsman's in Morgantown, WV, a couple days after Thanksgiving. Remington LPP's for $60/1K. GF was with me so I was able to get two bricks.

I was in Ohio at Fin, Feather, and Fur the day before and primers were about $90/1K, with match primers being a bit more. They did have some LRP. No limit on primers. Powder prices were decent as well.

So my Thanksgiving trip to visit relatives netted me 3200 LPP's, 1200 of which were for my reloading buddy. FWIW, I sold him the primers for what I paid. We both do each other right, and don't keep track of who has done more for the other. Off topic, I've given him dies, primers, and powder, and he's given me bullets, powder, and dies. Works well for us.

I heard on the news last week that might be a new primer factory going in the old granite city steel plant in granite city ill. Anybody else hear about this?
Oh not this crap again.... Seems like we always hear about a new primer company being started but it turns out to be a scam all along or something lol.

Here's the cheapest I can find anywhere for primers, SPP's @ $55/brick.

In case you are still looking.
$250/5k + 19 hazmat and FREE shipping

Last time I was in Fin, Feather. & Fur their shelves were fully stocked with primers and powder. Me thinking stock was coming back, I only bought 2 boxes…

Not sure if any of you saw this from VISTA...

Vista Outdoor, a parent company to many firearms businesses, told Newsweek that it will substantially increase its ammunition prices due to "an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder."

The Minnesota-based company confirmed the authenticity of a December 1 letter sent to customers that it would go ahead with an across-the-board increase of its ammunition and gunpowder prices on January 1.

"Due to world events our suppliers have notified us of unprecedented demand for and an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder, and thus has increased our prices substantially," Vice President of Sales, Sporting Products Brett Nelson said in the letter. "We must therefore raise our pricing to help offset those increases."

Companies that will increase their prices include Remington, Alliant Powder, CCI, Federal, SEVI-Shot and Speer. The following increases include:

Shotshell: 1-7 percent

Rifle: 1-7 percent

Handgun: 1-5 percent

22LR/Shorts: 1-5 percent

WMR/HMR: 1-7 percent

Primers: 5 percent

Alliant Powder: 10 percent (limited availability).

Vista Outdoor also told customers that unless they cancel an order, it will reprice "existing and future orders shipped on or after January 1, 2024, to the new prices." New price lists will follow in the coming weeks, Nelson said in the letter.

Welcome. Yeah, was a whole thread (maybe two) earlier in the week. Hard to get ahead of the guys here:)

I honestly thought about buying more primers, and some powder as well, but I'm trying to work through some of what I've got and don't really need anything but LPP's and LRP's.

Nice thing was they didn't have a limit but it was still on the shelf. Good to see that at least.

If you can't walk into the store and buy them it really does not matter what price they are. I would gladly pay a higher price if availability was like it was before all these events happened.
One of the grocery stores I shop in has a real butcher shop. Beef is getting cheap around here because of shipping costs. It makes a difference only having to ship the cow 20 miles versus 200. I guess city folks just prefer tofu.

I think it’s my turn to start a crazy conspiracy theory to explain something perfectly simple so, here goes: Natchez is pulling the one pounders in order to force people looking for replacements for their favorite Alliant and IMR powders into overbuying, knowing they will be disappointed and dump it in the yard. The other online sellers will follow suit under the orders of Global Vista ruling classes.
Either that or the price hike memo has made the rounds and people are panic buying.

....and, here I was, waiting for them to have another "free hazmat" weekend sale....

Edit: It appears to have been a false alarm. The 1-lb Hodgdon containers are showing again on the website. In fact it looks like more of them have been put on sale.

I notice that all of the 1-pound offerings of Hodgdon powders have disappeared suddenly from Natchez's web site. I wonder what's up.......
I would have never noticed as I almost never buy 1lb bottles of any powder. I don't even completely understand the thinking behind it...I usually by 8lb jugs; I'm actually a bit irritated that VV powders (N310/N320) don't come in larger containers than 4lbs.

My first thought would be a bunch of folks bought what they could afford or have been missing

As a low volume shooter buying 8lbs at a time makes no sense for me. I’m stuck storing big containers of mostly air instead of smaller containers full of mostly powder. It’s just a difference in our shooting habits and lifestyles. I don’t have the unlimited resources needed for that kind of free time activity. I have to work.

Oh, if only I had been born smart or rich instead of devastatingly handsome! 😳🤣
