Mr. Mosin

Had quite a few Model 36s way back when (always had a thing for the 3" barrel, round butt configuration), and most of them were used. If I bought the gun you're describing (probably worth around $500 to $550), I would carry it and shoot it til such time I decided it needed a new finish, at which point I would have it hard chrome plated and go right back to carrying it and shooting it.

Aah. Taking all your advice into account... I'd baby the 36, and buy a 442 to tinker with. Cerakote it, whatever. No need in ruining a classic piece that's better made than any but a Korth today.

Good idea!

I own a 442. I have had it since 1997. It wasn’t carried much until I moved to Oregon and I carried every day in my jacket pocket for 3.5 years. The finish shows no real wear.
Mine came with the rubber boot grips and still wears them.
A 442 would be an excellent choice for carry.

Buddy has a 637 and a LCR he's gonna let me shoot, along with a Ruger Alaskan and a few other things.

I have also had a thing for S&W's Model 38 and Model 49. Current versions are a Model 638 and a Model 649. Both work great with pocket carry or with an IWB holster.

I carried a 36 daily for decades in inside and outside holsters until we went to Glocks, took care of it and never had any rust. The finish may be more durable than you think, given proper care.

Bannockburn, I agree, a 3" 36 is a thing of beauty.
