Just got this used Millennium Pro. I got it from a guy who'd lost some fingers and couldn't pull the slide back. I've got all my fingers and it's very tough to operate the slide. Is this a common complaint? Is there an adjustment for this? Thanks.

My MilPro PT145 slide racks freely like any other pistol I have.

I would inspect the dual spring recoil assembly to see if it is not binding.

BTW, Taurus provides unlimited lifetime warranty on the pistol, even though you are not the original owner - http://www.taurususa.com/repair-policy.cfm

Sorry but no lifetime warranty due to it being recalled and discontinued. They offered me 150 dollars for mine. No joke wish i was but horrible cs and communication. I had a pt145 and carried it for years. Sold it off for an xd mod 2.

No, lifetime warranty still applies. MilPro PT145 is covered by the class action lawsuit and Taurus settled to provide "enhanced" lifetime warranty - https://www.tauruscartersettlement.com/

After the 120 day cash settlement period, you have the enhanced repair or replacement option. While many were offered G2 models, when they were not available, even PT1911 and others were offered.

Since Taurus no longer sells semi-auto pistols listed on CA approved roster, if/when my MilPro PT145 fails, I may elect to choose a revolver replacement option that are listed on the CA approved roster - http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/safeguns_resp.asp

Taurus Class Action

"On July 22, 2016, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida approved the Settlement.

If you own one or more of the following “Class Pistols” : PT-111 Millennium; PT-132 Millennium; PT-138 Millennium; PT-140 Millennium; PT-145 Millennium; PT-745 Millennium; PT- 609; PT-640; and PT-24/7 pistols (including the “PRO” series of each of these models), you may be entitled to the settlement benefits below. The settlement does not include Taurus G2 model pistols.

  • Settlement Payment Option – Settlement Class Members may elect to return their Class Pistol to the Taurus Companies and receive a payment of up to $200 per Class Pistol.
  • Enhanced Warranty – The Taurus Companies agree to modify their existing warranty for all Class Pistols to allow any owner to submit a warranty claim at any time.
    • The Class Pistol will be inspected by the Taurus Companies at no cost and repaired or replaced with no requirement that you prove the pistol is defective.
    • The Taurus Companies will pay all costs associated with this enhanced warranty, including but not limited to the cost of shipping to and from the Taurus Companies and the cost to inspect the Class Pistol.
    • You should anticipate a minimum three week turn-around if returning a Class Pistol for it to be repaired or replaced.
    • No repair for the alleged safety defects is currently available, so pistols returned under this option will be replaced with a comparable Taurus G2 (or similar) model pistol at this time. You can receive a replacement pistol only if applicable law permits the shipping of a replacement pistol to your state and municipality.
    • If Taurus develops a repair, it can repair rather than replace Class Pistols.

It has a dual recoil spring setup, so it can be a bit hard to work, and definitely not smooth. But I've found my PT145 worthy of carrying, which is why I bought it.

When I heard about the settlement, I contacted Taurus to see if my PT-111 Mil. Pro was covered, thinking they'd send me a brandy new Gen 2

Then sent me a shipping label to send it in for inspection, but I changed my mind fearing that they would offer me a lame settlement and then refuse to send my "unsafe" gun back to me if I declined.

The gun has been reliable and has done everything I've asked it to do. It is only unsafe if you decide to flip the thumb safety on while holding the trigger back.... which would be a really stupid thing to do. Since I don't think of myself as stupid, I kept the gun.

Many thanks. I was aware of the recall and factored that in to the purchase price. After I posted here, I googled it like I should have done in advance. Come to find this is a common complaint from new gun owners. I'm relieved to find that it's more technique than muscle. So here's to practice and more practice. I'll take a long look at that double spring setup.

Are you grasping the slide at the rear with your thumb and the side of your finger? If so, try the overhand "armorer's" grip-- put your whole weak hand hand over the top of the slide and grasp and pull, while simultaneously pushing the frame away with your strong hand on the gun's grip. The habit has become so ingrained in me that I even do it with an LCP. :)

Yep. This is what I found on the net. I'm old but not yet infirm.

Sorry again but no. I called them for months about this. Since the gun is discontinued they literally told me they wont send the gun back to me. No replacement or offer to fix anything in the future. Only offer was 150 dollars to buy back from the customer, thats it. All other models were fine because they are still being made.

So did they offer you a replacement with a different pistol?

Nope. Like i said worst experience i ever had with taurus. It's also unique to only the pt145 being in this situation. I called at least 10 times.

Too bad, I would have elected for a replacement pistol in lieu of $150-$200.

Unless Taurus lists semi-auto pistols on the CA approved roster of handguns again, future of Taurus in California is bleak just them selling revolvers. Heck, even Ruger pulled out all their semi-auto pistols too except for lonely 380 LCP.

While I enjoyed shooting 10,000+ rounds in my MilPro PT145 and will keep it until unrepairable failure occurs, I now live in a place where deep concealment is not an issue and likely use Glock 22/23 and possibly G20SF for my SD/HD purposes.

I like my PT145 Pro and haven't decided to turn it in or not. I didn't want the G2 PT111 but they have since came out with the PT140 Gen 2 which I may exchange for. Mine has always run 100% except the slide never locked open on an empty mag (4 different mags) yet, when I hand rack it on an empty mag it works fine. Anyone else figure this out? I'm holding back hoping they come out with a new .45ACP to trade for. No hurry since I am fine with the one I have.

Sounds like a new neckbeard business model. Buy up used PT145s for $100 and sell them back to the manufacturer for a profit! :D

They do make a 24/7 .45 Compact. They're hard to find in stores, but they are made. If replaced mine, it'd be with that, or a Glock30. :what:

Will they swap the PT for the 24/7? If they wil them I'm in.

I didn't think the 24/7 was considered "similar". I need to check it out.
Thanks,

have you looked at the recoil spring? reason i ask is i saw a shield once same issue you described. once opened darn if part of the spring coils werent bent weirdly. it was making the slide twice as hard to rack as it should be. wasnt my gun so i never figured out what had caused it other than the owner assembled it incorrectly somehow and shot it and caused the issue. course they claimed they didnt but you know that story.

course could just be its a taurus.:)

I did check it and it looked ok but I was thinking the same thing because it worked when I hand racked it (really hard). I figured the recoil would cycle it harder than I did but no luck. Maybe it has the recoil spring for the 24/7 (longer?) I bought it new and keep it clean. It is my kitchen HD gun. Runs 100% otherwise. I like the 10+1 .45ACP. I really like the gun other than the slide lock.

Just so you know the ruger LCP isn't on the CA roster. The LC380 is which is basically a LC9 chambered in 380acp.
