I can't believe you don't know what I'm referring to. So what is the motive for your question?

Visual cues aside, I've just never had the impression that gangbangers would be motivated to make themselves look like the man in the picture. It would ruin their "street cred".

Attributing stupidity to one's opponents is a great way of ending up dead.
Gang members have joined the military and police forces in order to obtain access to training or markets. Gangs have suborned prison officials so that they can carry out business within the institutions designed to contain and "rehabilitate" their members. Gangs by their very nature are organized and dedicated towards their goals.
We need to stop thinking of criminals as idiots or as they are depicted in hip hop videos. Too many of them are closer to insurgents than Ice T.

At that level I'll call them organized crime. The typical public perception of a gangbanger is closer to what I described, is it not? It is the public at large that Oleg is trying to reach with his poster.
The public Oleg is trying to reach probably understand that gangs are another form of organized crime. The West Side Story version of gangs has become outdated as the public perception of them became oriented more with home invasions, drug and weapon deals, protection rackets, initiation murders, etc. Stereotyping gangbangers as being hip hop wannabes is that it undermines the reality that not all gang members walk around in the "uniform of the day" when committing crimes.

Maybe its just me, but the term "gangbangers" does not elicit thoughts of organized gang members, but rather the pant sagging thug type of person you see on the streets.

As far as "NO Knock Warrants go"... I've watched some Dallas Swat, I've done some Raids over seas... I've heard of criminials pulling the "I'm the Police Stunts for home invasion/robbery".
Here is my $0.02, I'm an honest, upstanding American Citizen, I live in a nice neighborhood, I'm a US Marine, a man who legally owns and has legally permited firearms, I don't do drugs, there have never been any drugs in my home, I only know one person who periodically smokes dope (a civilian in another state), I deeply respect and support the local law enforcement, I don't trust the FBI, ATF or other G-men... even though; Robert Lee Mathews, Randy Weaver, and the whole Waco incident involved criminials, I believe the Law Enforcement agencys went over board, but then again, I've also done 'hard hits' in Iraq, so I know what it is like going into a "dangerous situation" in a CQB enviroment, against dangerous men.
About the only law I break, I have an illegal exhaust system on my car for on-road use, she gets driven maybe once every two weeks... not quite enough to justify a "no knock" warrant?
When my door bell rings after dark, or there is a knock... I always, ALWAYS take a pistol with me in condition 1, if my front door came crashing down or slideing glass door shattered, I'd go strait for the gun safe pistol in hand, M4-gery would get loaded and there's 2 - 25 round mags of SS109 green tip that will bust through level III body armor at under 100 yards, I'm shooting to kill.
WHY do I feel this way, why would I plan to take such action? Because there is only one reason why a Law Enforcement Agency would come to my home... to violate my 2nd Amendment rights!

I heard the potato as a silencer idea from CSI one night and have wondered about it since. Of course, to serve that purpose the shot would have to be subsonic (and I'd be surprised if these guys had thought that far ahead). Anyone testing with their standard 9mm will get the loud crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier silencer, potato or nothing at all, right? Has anyone tested with a subsonic bullet?

I hope they registered those potatoes. Living in the urban south I can tell you two things I have observed. The guys that look like "gangbangers" are usually wannabe thugs that have no real connections with organize crime. At best they are small time drug dealers, but more likely they are dressing like that to impress their peers that glorify the thug life as much as they do. They may commit petty crime, break into a house or two, or even shoot someone over drugs, but they are not the true thugs. The true thugs don't drive cars on 24" rims because they know they attract attention. They go more towards nice sedans with dark tinted windows. They have their lawyer on speed dial. They don't mess around with things like mercy and bystanders. They know better than to do stupid stuff in broad daylight. If you make them mad they think nothing of killing you or a family member.

I find the idea of putting a potato on the end of my firearm to be very foolish. I guess it is getting blown off the end and the pressure is not going any higher if you are not at the high end.

2. their tactical entry consists of head-diving through a broken glass window. ouch.
3. tactical "police officer" promptly gets shots. begins to holler.
4. the backup screws a potato onto the end of his gun.
5. starts shooting randomly into room WITH HIS DOWNED PARTNER STILL IN IT
6. gives up shooting when he realizes he's being shot back at.
7. also head-dives through glass into room.
8. shoves wounded parter through glass out of room.
9. proceeds to actually use the door knob at this point.

Well, if it was just a blank, the potato would just shoot off the end of the barrel, instead of exploding. I mean it's not a good silencer, and I wouldnt trust it for anything, but for what criminals intend the potato silencer for, an execution shot, it probably works better than no muffler.
Heh, this is off topic, but in the previews for the movie "no country for old men" they got wierd silencers on the ends of their guns that look exactly like the homemade silencers from those old "make your own silencer" books. Wonder if the movie will go into that? Maybe it'll sway public opinion on silencer ownership, since it's so easy for a criminal to make one anyway.

We must ban potatoes!!!
Those hooligans are now using a highly deadly weapon never before thought of by anyone.....the Biological Silencer, something that can be grown by anyone who knows how to grow things, and something that could lead to so many innocent deaths in the future if we don't stop it now.
We must ban potatoes now before criminals and anarchists will get their hands on them and start killing innocent people. The public must be aware of how these items can be used to carry out criminal intent. We can do the same to protect our community from this on-going gun violence by writing to our state representatives about the dangers and pass the necessary laws to prevent further bloodshed. First, we must crack down on the supermarkets who actually sell these items. Potatoes should only be sold to people who passed multiple background checks and possess a valid license in their state/county that permits them to own potatoes. Any store or individual who possesses a potato without such license will be subject to a fine and prison term. Instead of our tax dollars being used to combat terrorism, we must mass law enforcement agencies on every state border and highway and inspect every single car and truck that heads out of Idaho to prevent the smuggling of highly dangerous contraband. Only then, we will be able to crack down on gun violence that is plaguing our cities and neighborhoods.
Quick!!! You can do your part, write to your local and state politicians NOW and put as many restrictions as possible on this new and highly dangerous biological weapon of mass destruction before they fall into the hands of criminals who intend on the murders of hundreds of innocent civilians!
