Question about NICS delay

Don't you have to be CONVICTED of a DV charge?? - this is getting to be more like 1750s Salem all the time.

I know this comes up in security clearance checks, etc, and it will kill a miitary career, but I believe its only for convictions - am I wrong??

dogtown, I looked at that map, according to it, FL does state lookups, not NICS checks??

I think nulook45's experience is very typical of everyone who has ever had the slightest involvement with police regarding domestic violence. Yes, it is exactly 1750s Salem regarding DV. I've seen many guys who work for me ruined by the littlest thing when the cops are called for a domestic dispute.

It's easier for the cops just take someone away then to actually figure out if anything is happening or not and the liberals love the statistics.

By Federal law it is only convictions in a court that count and certain specific restraining orders. But in reality, it's practically the simple 911 call that all hell breaks loose with.

I agree in some ways. In my case, when the cops came they listened to me and my wife before they arrested us. And they didn't just arrest me, they arrested her too, because they learned of how she started everything, from me.

But so far I haven't had any problems whatsoever from having been arrested and charged with DV. When I got hired at Cabela's, they made me sign all these forms authorizing background checks. Everything from Police records, to driving records. And they didn't even mention an arrest at all when they hired me. Guns are 80% of our sales at the store I work at and they just wouldn't have hired me had they had any concerns about me being a violent person, or if I had been convicted of DV.

Also, the reason they put me on delay was because my dealer didn't know what to say when they asked him if he had seen proof that I had been a resident for 90 days. They never said anything about a criminal record. And the fact that I'm still on delay makes me think it's more something related to USCIS being slow than my arrest record, or else they would've denied me already.

But you never know. I'll pick up my gun tomorrow since today was the 3rd business day and they didn't call. Unless they call tomorrow before I pick up my gun and deny me, which would totally suck...

We'll see! I'm o.k either way. I was really anxious at one point because I've been real thrilled and excited about owning my very own pistol (instead of fondling my dad's or somebody else's) but it's not that big of a deal anymore. If I get denied and have to appeal, then I'll buy this really nice Stratocaster that I found on eBay for almost as much as I was gonna pay for the gun.

Do I have this right, you work atr Cabelas and bought your first gun from a small retailer?
I processed many 4473's for Cabelas and if you don't have the 90 days proof, we'll wait while you get them. And no, your waiting period does'nt start until we get approval. Here in ILLinois it's almost moot since it usually takes the major part of 90 days to get a foid. That's the first thing you need to even handle a gun. What's your status now? Given your absence it is my hope you're out shooting your new piece.

Oh I was! Cabela's paid for my Conceal Carry class so I took it today. Man was it FUN! AND I got to shoot my G.20, which was really neat and LOUD.

Anyway, here it is!

Also, I didn't buy it at Cabela's for 2 reasons: 1- They're in WV; I'm in Ohio. I would've had to pay $35 for them to ship it to my FFL and $10 for him to transfer it to me. That's what they charge. AND 2- Cabela's price is $599; my FFL got it for me brand new for $499.
