R51 issue and questions, yes the 2nd generation

Cooldill, um, I don't even know quite how to respond.
Makarovs are accurate and they are reliable to a fault.
Where is the downside of that?

Your reply reminds me of the Harley fanboys who tell me to get a "real" bike, because I ride a Japanese bike. Never mind all the Japanese parts in a modern Harley.

Anyhoo, how is an unreliable, new-production R51 better than a reliable Makarov?
If anything, the Jammington is a more obsolete design than the Mak.

It would appear that Cooldill's sarcasm was too subtle for some.

Ah, here we run into Poe's Law: "Without a clear indication of the author's intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between an expression of sincere extremism and a parody of extremism." (Per rationalwiki.com)

Or to put it another way, it is not possible to say definitively whether Cooldill is joking or not. I, like 45_auto, assumed he was joking, because the Makarov is famously reliable and gun people are not inclined to despise old things simply for being old, but that's just me.

If Cooldill was being sarcastic, I apologize.
After reading it again, I can see where he could be yanking my chain.
I still like the R51, but not if it's going to be a stinkburger.

Funny thing, I've had some guys poo-poo my Maks.
Of course, they were gun snobs.
Heck, I thought they were goofy-looking until I bought one.
Then, I bought another to give to my dad.
Then, I bought a Bulgarian from a friend.
Yeah, the Mak is not as powerful as a 9mm fired from a 5" barrel.
Then again, neither is a 9mm fired from a stubby, subcompact.

I figure, Hornady Critical Defense, Buffalo Bore, (old) Cor Bon, Underwood, or Barnaul HP ammo will serve me well, given proper shot placement.

Not saying the Mak is my only choice for SD. Far from it.
Not necessarily my first choice, either. However, it's far from my last choice.

Anyhoo, I want an R51, if the new ones are 100 percent reliable.

Well, the main difference is that the Mak is a heck of a lot less powerful, which is the main reason it fell out of prominence. I understand their recoil impulse is quite a bit more substantial than what I know the R51's to be, as well, being simple blowbacks. This despite being four ounces heavier.

Once again, let's think this over rationally (well, assuming we actually want to solve a problem rather than complain about it, or beg someone else to fix it for us on their time). If Lincen's tapped out & returned it to Remington for redress in October 2018, whatever; that's his prerogative. I suspect the problem is something simple causing the issue, maybe or maybe not something that can be addressed by the end user. My educated guess is some of the chambers suck, again, still, like many of Remington's other products these days, but I could be wrong. Plunk test will generally reveal the problem. Fix that one issue, gun may run fine (hey, worked for me/mine), as it appears many of the gen 2 reviewers are finding. Not excusing shoddy workmanship (though it's hardly unexpected at $350 & Remington) but rather focusing on solving the problem, since that's the only way to actually get it fixed in less than two years' time.

I am sorry to read people are still having problems with this gun. I am interested in the R51. Aside from the historical fascination with the Pederson action, it is a superb pocket design.

Me thinks Cooldill is being sarcastic.

'em Jayhawkers have a strange sense of humor at times.

Not with though. I'm a Wu Shocker.

There really isn't that can be said about the problems with his Remington. He has more patience than I do in getting it to work. I would definitely call Remington and have them pay for the return shipping.
