RANGE REPORT: CZ-75B (Pics)

Well, I traded off my XD-45 for this CZ-75B in 9mm, which is in lightly used 98% condition. It was a straight trade, and maybe I came out a little bit behind, but I cannot afford to shoot .45 ACP right now, and have two other 9mm pistols and over 1000 rounds of ammo stockpiled. Here is a pic of the pistol:



Well, I was attracted to the CZ from glowing reports about reliability and accuracy, and its similarity to my dad's Browning HP, which I have shot extensively and like. In my opinion, this weapon feels very much like a high power, with the double action trigger being long but smooth, and the single action being very crisp, much better than my dad's mid-70s vintage High Power. The gun points very well for me, and I shot 150 rounds through it today, with NO MALFS of any kind. Here's what I did with it:

All in all, I am very satisfied with the gun. I now have a DA/SA, and another service size gun that I can afford to shoot. If anything, my first time out of the gate I shot the gun as good, or maybe even a bit better than my Glock 17, which has three thousand rounds through it.

The Glock will remain my home defense/car gun, because of its incredible reliability, very good accuracy in my hands, etc. But this CZ will go with me to the range every trip, and I'll keep tabs on its reliability as well.

Thanks! Yeah, I really like it. A good trade. Feels very stout. The guy I bought it from told me it only had 50 rounds through it, and it looks brand new.

I'm satisfied.

Excellent choice in the CZ line. 9mm is very economical for those of us on a budget.

Besides, You can always buy a 97B later on, and splurge every once and awhile for some .45 ammo to feed it. The 97B is superbly accurate.

That is about how my targets look like after I shoot my PCR at the range. One big hole where most of the rounds went...then the occasional flyer. Nice gun, good shooting. Your site may be off just a little to the left...but no big deal. I got some trijicon sites for it...took a little while to get dialed in...but now dead on.

45acp is only brought out for holidays and home invasions! I'm picking up a 75B SA (single action only) model tomorrow. Like you, I have read that these are just one of those guns you should own. It will share equal time with my G-17 if it is half of what I have read about it. I got the SA because the trigger felt smoother to me out of the box, and it drops all mags free. They are harder to find, but i'll give a range report by the weekend.

I still buy the mil surplus 9mm from wideners for 6.50 a box and it shoots nice, or the 14.65 / 100 WWB wallyworld in a pinch.

Nice shooting for your first time out with that beauty.

I miss putting my weekly dose of 200 rounds of 45 through my Colt, but that was getting very expensive!

Typical CZ accuracy and reliability. Typical. My Pre-B 75 shoots ragged one hole groups at 21', all day long.

One of the finest, if not the finest, all steel 9's on the market.

Go to the CZ website, spend $30 and get the rubber grips. Get the factory rubber grips only. Trust me, they make a good gun awesome. I can honestly say that the CZ factory rubber grips is one of the best things you can do with $30.

I too recently discovered how fantastic CZ pistols are ! We gotta keep these things a secret for a while longer....I want my dealer to stay stocked up on CZ pistols until I get my fill

If you need one a little lighter and smaller for CCW, I can highly recommend the P-01. I traded my G17 for one, and am extremely pleased with the trade.

I love my CZ75B

+1 on the factory rubber grips. Also, don't dryfire without snapcaps. I broke a firing pin on mine and they're as not easy to replace as a 1911. I love mine, it's got a trigger job by Mike Eagleshield and Wolff springs. Over 2,000 rounds and four or five times as many dryfires (now with snap caps), and only a few failures early on, I can't even remember the last time it burped. Mostly WWB 115 range ammo. Great guns.

You will love that CZ. I bought the 75BD back in 2002. Put the Kadet Kit with it for about $250 then and had a very nice 9mm and superb .22 all on one frame. Two boxes of 9mm and one brick of .22 makes a great range session for not too much money. When I bought mine at a gun show some guy asked rather loudly who'd want to buy a CZ? and the dealer replied " a guy who wants a $650 gun for $350". I still smile at that response. My CZ collection has grown to 4 so be careful.

The CZ-75B is a superb handgun. I could shoot mine all day. It has fired almost 2,000 rounds so far (a lot of it hot +P ammo) and it has never malfunctioned. I trust it implicitly.

Back when they were $350 they were simply the biggest bargain in gundom. Now they run about $450 (some of the more "cutting edge" models like the P-01 sell for around $500) and are still an excellent buy, very fairly priced relative to comparable makers like SIG, Beretta, etc. The fact that you can still buy a CZ-75B for less than a Glock 17 is pretty striking, when you consider the respective materials costs of the two pistols. (Not to mention their respective aesthetics ... ) And the CZ gives up nothing in reliability.

The CZ factory grips are comfortable, but I chose to put Hogue cocobolo grips on my pistol. They fit snugly and look very nice, in my estimation.

Sorry but the secret's out. I work at a large, well-known gun dealer. We hardly ever had CZs in ever. I complained a lot and we've started carrying them more now, but still only the 75b (I'm working on getting the .40s, the 97b, p01 and all the other great ones). In January we were selling the 75b for $400, in February they went up to $429 and today they went up to $459. I think corporate has finally realized where these things stand in the the shooter's eye or something.

I think the price might be high as to where the rest of the market is, but at $460 it's still a great buy. I've always heard the expression '$700 gun for $400,' well, we might be paying $700 for them sooner than we thought. The 75b and it's children are some of the most respected pistols out there.

The secret is out.

Range report - holy crap I found my 1st or 2nd best 9mm so far!!

Just got a new CZ 75B SA with 2 mags NIB and took it for a test run with 100 rounds of mil surplus from AIM 6.50 / box ADCOM and a 100 rounds of WWB from wally world. This is one of the tightest factory gun out of the box I have had (and that was about # 19 so far). It shot to the POA within 2 1/2 inches at 15yards with all I put down the pipe. Did nothing but clean the excess factory oil from it and put some CLP on moving parts. This will be next to my G-17 every trip to the range. Already ordered another 5mags to save reload time on line.

My only negative was a bit of grittiness in the first trigger takeup for a few mils or so, but I see this smoothing out with use, and even dry firing the snaps that came with it, it did not make my pull jump around. Very nice. Easy to take down and clean. No noticable wear marks or slide peaning or swirls, this seems to be a quality gun that could stick around for a long long time. It came with 2 factory mags. funny thing was, one holds 15 rounds, and the other 16. don't unders tand that, but near my g-17 regardless. hope my other mags on order hold 16, but who's gonna bitch about a round. if you haven't won the battle in 5 rounds you best be a good runner (for your AK). both mags drop free with a quick push of the button empty, which is why i got the SA.

I ran some sweetshooters through the barrel after the first few rounds and before I shot it, but it may not have mattered much. So far, this thing is all that I have read and then some. I'll give the 1000 round report, which could be in the next month or so.

I paid 450 for it, which was 50 under my new g-17. in 20 years, i see this thing still being in great shape, and not sure on the plastic one. although i stick with the reliability and design and accuracy of the block, this thing is sure a contender long term!!

CZ makes some of the finest handguns out there. I've had a 75 and a 100 - both in 9mm. The CZ100 was a little picky about ammo, but to be honest some of the cheaper ammo in S. Africa were darn awful - I've seen stuff that not even a glock would eat!
The CZ75 took absolutely everything and shot it.

I've not owned either a 1911 or a CZ yet (working on making a CZ my next handgun purchase, as soon as I can find someone to buy my USP .40), but as near as I can tell, the quality of a $700 1911 doesn't come close to a satin finished cz75, and it doesn't sit in the hand as well as a cz, either (and that's exactly what it feels like: like the cz was designed to sit in your hand like a toddler would your lap).
