Alright. I'll be looking for a PDW in a couple of months that isn't exactly a handgun and isn't exactly a rifle. I'm thinking of things similar to AK pistols, the Kel Tec PLR16, large pistols with hi cap mags, or pistol caliber carbines.

I want something with a decent capacity that is relatively compact. Probably the largest obstacle will be the cost limit of $600.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you are looking for but here are some suggestions that might work for you.

In rifles the Kel - Tec or maybe a Highpoint carbine may be in your price range

For pistols I belive you can get a Glock that will take a 30 round mag but I'm not sure of the price, but I do know you can get a CZ P 09 for under $600 and they carry 19 + 1

Hope this helps a bit , good luck in your search

"Sounds like you want a Kriss vector"
"cost limit of $600."
Ummm, no. As far as actual PDWs, I'm not sure there are any in that range (I guess an AR57 upper w/ existing lower might sneak in under 600$). As far as pistol caliber carbines, there's some old un's but good un's like Suomi M31s, PPS43s are practically pdw's, CX4s are cheaper of late, and there's the Mech-Tech conversion thingies. There's also some AR pistol conversion/variations

Cooler, fancier options are the PS90, Vector, MPX (someday), MP7 (never), and Brugger & Thomet TP9 (my personal fav that I'll never own)

I'd check atlanticfirearms.com, I check them every once in a while. They've got an assortment of AK, AR, MP5 clone pistols etc. You could also look at the Sterling. They come in pistol and rifle versions. The AK and Sterlings are probably more in your price range. If you want a Keltec sub2000, you should scour gunlistings.org. Every now and then you'll find them for $600 +/-.

What are you planning to actually do with it. I have owned a number such guns (in order to make them SBRs) and as pistols they have extremely limited value. Particularly as defensive weapons. As SBRs they are great. Not so much in pistol form.

I've had my PLR-16 for years. It's a great gun, accurate and reliable, feeds everything, very fun to shoot, loud as hell. Compared to the AR pistols on the market it's a bargain and no buffer tube in the way.

If want something in between a pistol and rifle, I'd go the pistol with arm brace route since it's been deemed that using the arm brace against your shoulder is legal. Saves on the paperwork and $200. At least if you want it for SD/HD, otherwise I've heard it's not all that comfortable. However if that's the niche I was filling, that's the route I'd go.

I'll have to see what my local store has, given the number of people saying to avoid rifle caliber pistols unless I intend to SBR them, I'll probably go with a pistol caliber carbine like the Sub 2000.

What is it that you truly want and are trying to achieve? Consider what an actual PDW is...typically smaller than a subgun in a short bottleneck cartridge designed to throw smaller diameter projectiles at higher velocities than might be reached out of a pistol. What they've come to embody are small subguns firing purpose built cartridges.

What it sounds like you're really after is a rifle platform shortened to the point that it looks like a pistol. If you're actually after a PDW you're way off base on the budget. If you want a shortened rifle that looks like a pistol, I don't believe you're going to be all that happy with performance and functionality. Of course it's going to go bang, but they're not very useable.

I've got a number of SBR's, an AOW 870, and have fired a number of PDW's. The pistol type PDW's are immensely more functional with a stock, so I'd recommend SBR'ing something from the beginning and doubling your budget at a bare minimum.

Sounds like what you need is a Calico 9mm pistol...
100-rds per mag of 9mm gangbuster.

Although they tend to start at $600+ used...there is NOTHING like 100-rds per mag!!
In fact, nothing short of a full auto Glock 18 with a Beta-mag even comes close.
