Rediscovered iwb carry

@dodo bird - Pictured in previous post are the 5.11 Apex pants. They have the zippered, inside cargo pockets (so they're not as tacticool looking) on the thighs that have inside slots for magazines (or speed strips/speedloaders, the front pocket has reinforcements for knife clips and they're big enough for a J-frame inside pretty much any pocket holster (my go-to pocket holster for a J-frame is the Kramer). https://www.kramerleather.com/products/pocket-gun-holster

My hip is sore just looking at that! Yikes. I will agree that carrying a 5" 1911 is easy IWB, but an N-frame?

I know, it’s nuts. But it can work. I tried a little experiment of my own and wore this combo every day that I could during February. I wound up with 19 days and just over 187 hours total, averaging 9.8 hours per day. One day was only 4 hours, one was 17, most were between 9 to 11 hours at a pop.

“Normal” activity for me the whole while - work, church, driving, shopping, dining, walking the dog, even attended a church dance with my bride LOL. I was really surprised at how well it worked and the pronounced lack of discomfort. Granted, a good belt (mine are from A&G Custom Gunleather) also had a hand in things.

I tried IWB years ago and couldn’t get used to it, it was just uncomfortable. Combine that with disarming and rearming daily for work, pocket carry became the norm.
Now I’ve lost over 50lbs and really wanting to get away from pocket carry I tried IWB again and it still sucks, I just got in a Vedder OWB that will hopefully work out.

I suspect switching to an untucked shirt will probably be my biggest adjustment. Not sure I’ll make it, but I’m hoping.

If you're wearing an untucked shirt, OWB carry makes a lot of sense: less hassle & safer holstering, getting a firing grip on the gun is easier with an OWB, and finally, you don't have to go out and buy a size larger pair of pants.

Here's my P365 in an OWB of my own making...I've yet to find a T-shirt, or button up shirt that won't cover the gun adequately and still offer ease of access. YMMv, Rod

I have to travel to different states and countries for work. Maybe many will think I am a slob, however if anyone has an untucked shirt I have no idea what they have in their waistband. I pretty much always have an untucked shirt. Most of the time in the states I am armed. That’s the impression that I want the bad guys to wonder what’s under the untucked shirt. Even if I am in a country where I obviously don’t fit in. To each their own. After losing weight it definitely makes it easier to iwb carry. Unless of course you’re planing of doing a lot of walking, then owb. Pocket carry will always have place depending on circumstances. The biggest challenge is to keep the weight off.

I have to go tucked at work, I work in an industrial setting around more nips than most people can imagine. An untucked shirt at work could get me maimed or killed. So tucked is my habit, untucking and re-tucking is a pain. As much as I dislike pocket carry, for the days I work, it really is about the only option I’m willing to do. I am however constantly trying to figure a way out of it.
