Reloading Supplies - Lessons Learned?

The problem many of us ran into was prior to 2008, there were always components available, even the most popular. Many times your LGS had prices that matched buying bulk or at least came close. We got into the habit of buying when we needed something, and smaller quantities,(only 1 case of primers or 1 8# jug of powder), especially primers and powders, to keep them "fresh" or just because many of us had limited appropriate area to store such components. This is why when the shortage came about, primers and powders were the first to disappear. We have all since learned. I know after the first shortage I did and when the second shortage came about I was well stocked and okay. Even tho many will never be caught with their pants down again, others will have a short memory and surely will be back on the forums whining again.

Back when I had the opportunity to put components away, I put components away. When Pat in Ohio had bargains I took advantage of the availability of components. Back when there was complaining about the shortage and price I had no problem finding and acquiring components, more often than not they found me.

About 7 days ago I came home with about 1,200 pounds of everything related to what I do, bullets cases powder reloading equipment and parts etc.. Not a lot of primers, some are oily, I will warn the wife before testing them. Cost? An 80 mile round trip, and I helped an old friend with a few expensive repairs, parts cost to him was $120.00. His estimated repair cost started at $800.00 + for a part and they did not know if that was going to fix his problem.

Yes: I'm thankful for brick-and-mortar suppliers who still go the extra mile and sell hard to find powder in small quantities.

+1 to brick and mortar. Gander or Bass Pro aint gonna call and hold for me a specific powder that I ask them too, like my LGS will. Well, I guess Gander and Bass Pro are B&M also.

I guess Im talking about the "little guys", gotta have those guys IMO..
