I got a real good deal on a remington 700 sendero at a pawnshop. It has a nice kevlar stock, free floating bull barrel, nice trigger pull, good looking tactical rifle only problem is it's a 22-250. I would love an 18" to 20" inch threaded barrel in 308. First questions, can you swap the barrel on a 22-250 to a 308? Where can I find a replacement barrel? How much will a gunsmith charge? and what would be a good tactical scope for a 308? I found an AAC 18" inch threaded barrel for $400, if I can't find anything lower in price then I am willing to spend the money as long as the barrel do's fit the 22-250.

Yes; I would reccomend this be performed by a gunsmith.

There are many manufacturers out there. You need to discuss w/ your smith prior to ordering a barrel. I would probably want tthe barrel manufacturer to short chamber and contour the barrel (probably cheaper than the smith will do it).

$400 is about the price you'll pay for a good barrel. The cost to have a smith install/finish chamber the rifle could vary greatly and the better smiths seem to be backerd up several months+. If you're going to invest in the rifle, don't go bargin on the barrel.

I did that to my 22-250 sendero some months ago changed the barrel to lilja ss in 308 + some other things. Here she is now dressed in black

It would probably be cheaper to just buy an 700 in 308. 22-250 is a good cartridge...chris3

My gunsmith charged me something around $350 to open up my stock and cut, crown, thread, chamber and headspace my barrel, as well as lap the lugs. That did not include the cost of the barrel.

On that 18" AAC barrel, was that a stock 20" barrel that was cut down? I just don't remember the stock length on the AAC model. If it is a stock barrel, that sounds a bit steep to me. I bought a 20" LTR barrel not too long ago for $50 or so. In any case, if you do get a pull off barrel, it's really just a matter of having a smith install it and check the headspace.

Ive got 3 barrels from ERshaw. They are much less pricy then alot of barrels, but do deliver. Personaly i never cared for short heavy barreld guns, so all of mine have been fairly long 24-26" sporter weights, and all shot well under 1".

Thanks Malt, that is exactly what I want, I originally wanted a CZ-550 Urban Counter Sniper. The two reasons I didn't buy one was the 16" inch barrel is a little to short for me and the price on it is $2200. with the 18" inch barrel in 308, I can use it at the range, varmints and in a tactical situation. I would add a surefire muzzle break to the threaded barrel to reduce recoil and mainly to attach a surefire silencer later. I can do without a detachable 10 round magazine, but if I change my mind later I can always install one on the Rem. Here's how much I am looking at with the Rem: Rifle $400, Barrel $400, Surefire Muzzle break $150, that’s a grand total of $950, minus gunsmith fee.
