18 pounds...!

:what: ;)

I went for the least weight possible for my 'Y2K' civilian-survival rifle.
I knew the thing would be bbl.-heavy with the 26" tube.
That's when I decided to go for the 1-pc. base; low rings; 1" tube scope and pillar-bedded HOGUE stock vs. the full-bedding block.
I tried to save a few ounces here and there.
I think it's in the 12-pound range...now I gotta go weigh it.

Yeah, I have a fused neck, and wanted to reduced perceived recoil w/o a muzzle break killing my ears. The stock alone is close to 6 pounds. For me, weight is my friend. Since it's a varmint rifle, I don't worry about excessive carry difficulties. I park my truck, unload the portable bench, sandbags etc, and deploy my heavy weight rifles at the edge of the field. :D

I have a 700p also, really nice rifle. You have to do something about the scope though. I think the interals on your Centerpoint 4-16 are made of plastic. I bought and returned 3, if you mount it and dial the knobs up and down a few times your usuable elevation drops from ~56moa to ~30moa. The rectile moves up and to the right when making a up adjustment. I tried 3 (from 2 different walmarts), the FM 4-14 FFP scope and Mueller 4-14 APT scopes actually work and are pretty cheap also.

Thanks, gglass. By the way, if you are interested in a Weaver 36X with Leupold Mark 4 rings, I have one that I no longer use. I replaced it with a Nightforce. ust drop me a PM if interested.

I can hear Aerosmith singing "Dream on" in the back of my head.

I finally finished the break-in process of my barrel... Wise or not, it is now done. I can only say that I am uber-happy with the way this Remington 700 P performs. Below is the final 5-shot group as I ended the break-in process, and I have to say that I am more than pleased.

What does it mean when the flyer hits your POA?

"What does it mean when the flyer hits your POA?"

It means you need to dial it a 1/4" left! :neener:

I am absolutely kidding around. that's some good shooting, should be proud of the shooter and rifle

That's what I call minute-of-varmint shooting. If it's within 500 yards, the critter better be current on its prayers.

My first outing with the 700 POLICE had little groups like that.
I remember thinking, "Dang, Bubba! :what:You cain't shoot that good. Got's'ta be the rifle!!!" :D

In your case, it's 'DIME GOOD SHOOTIN', MISTER!' :)

Here's mine. It's just the cheap SPS Tactical. I put a Swarovski 3.5-18X44 on it.

I shot it this past weekend, and this was the best group. I'm still working on the loads.

BTW, congrats on your rifle. I'll be that X40 trigger is sweet.

I will conclude my "dream" 700 Police post with a final picture. This is a 3-shot group in stiff wind, where my scope (As cheap as it is) and barrel are finally dialed-in.

Now back to livin' the dream. :)

keep practicing and eventually you will get that dime ;)

where did you get your rifle. I'd also love to have one.

A local dealer, Midwest Gun Exchange in Mishawaka, IN usually gets an outrageous deal for their fall sale. Last year it was a truckload of Colt LE 6920's and 6940's for $200 less than anyplace else I've seen. This year it is the Remington 700 Police for $749, which is less than anyplace else I've seen in a long time.

My son bought one on Monday, and was told that they were down to their last six rifles... They went very fast indeed.

Good luck in your search.

That rifle is on my "Must have" list also. I'm going to the Niles gun show soon and I'm gonna see if I can't find one. But most likely I'll find something else I don't need to spend money on. My father owns one in 30-06 and uses it for hunting but it isn't a police model. I loved it, but I would prefer one in .308.

NIce, looks about identical to my 700 Police. Mine has the detach mag option, and I went with Leupold rings and 1-piece standard mount. Currently has 6-24x44 AO glass on it with bipod, sling, butt-cuff. It's deadly accurate with Hornady 165 SSTs, Lake City match brass, Varget powder and Winchester primers. I was as pleasantly surprised as you to be getting sub-moa out of it with virtually nothing done to it except shooting it. The trigger is probably the best rifle trigger I ever had, including the Jard that was on the Sendaro I sold.

I did get out this weekend to work on dialing things in even more. This is my best 100 yard Sub-MOA group of the day. This 3-shot group, which measures 0.263 MOA (measured with calipers) was done with 15 mph cross-winds. I was trying to time my shots based on the felt wind and observing the blowing leaves.

Did I mention that I love this rifle? :D

Very nice rifle, and VERY nice shooting!

And Geno, if you *need* a truck to move your rifle, it might just be too damn heavy. :neener: Granted, I shouldn't be talking. I slung a 12-ish pound scoped .223 semi-automatic rifle into the field that I had to have a bipod to shoot accurately.

WW:
Yep...it's heavy. It's a fun rifle to fire.

gg:

Dang, that rifle is "dangerously" accurate. You better box it up and ship it to me for safekeeping. PS: send ammo too. :D Lots and lots of ammo...

Geno

Congrats on your rifle and the fine target shooting. A gun like that is everyone's dream. I'd love to see some long-range shooting from your gun. What is the longest range that you have available?

I'm planning on getting the Savage 10FP which is very similar to your Rem. I've seen the Savage 10FP shoot 0.43 MOA at 550 yds.!! The guy had a 6-shot group that measured 2.47" horizontally and 1.1" vertically. That's a SIX-shot group which makes the feat even more remarkable. Most guys would have tossed out a flyer or two and called it a 1/3 MOA group.

I believe it's against the law to deface U.S. money. ;)
