Remington 7600 Receiver Plugs

I acquired a Remington 7600 and the scope was removed leaving holes in the four scope mount areas. Is this receiver screw the correct one:

Forster Plug Screws 8-40 x 1/8" Blue Package of 10

If not can some one direct me to the correct screw? I called remington and they want 3 dollars a screw and 8 dollars shipping for 4 screws. Screw that! Thanks

Most pre-tapped receivers take 6x48, not 8x40, but if you are not sure, you can buy a size 6 and size 8 screw at the hardware store for a nickel or so and check. Don't try to screw them in as the threads will be wrong, but you can check the size easily enough.

Or if you have a screw that fits, you can measure it. No. 6 is about .133", No 8 about .158".

FWIW, I like Brownell's positive stop plug screws; they look a lot better.

On the remington website under parts the 7600 plug is listed as: RECEIVER SITE PLUG SCREW BL (.162x.40) What size would that be? The No. 8?

8x40 TPI.
