Hi everyone, Im new!! I have just obtained a mohawk 48. I have not yet shot it but have been doing research before I do. I have questions for those of you who are familiar with this shotgun. All input is appreciated, but really hoping to hear first hand from someone who truly knows this firearm and its mechanics. Thanks in advance!

(1) I have read where there are reports of wood cracking (forearm and stock). My forearm has a molded insert that looks to be plastic or light metal. Is this perhaps to strengthen it? Does backing off a few clicks of the magazine nut that holds the forearm on really prevent cracking of the forearm, merely a rumor?

(2) The setup beneath the forearm is in this order: A split brass ring that can be removed is inserted into the barrel lug and together this slides over the mag tube against the end of the recoil spring. There is a rubber washer between where the brass ring and recoil spring meet, which appears to be for padding purposes only (keeping brass and recoil metal piece from touching directly). The end of the recoil spring is a solid piece of metal attached to the spring and it has "this end toward muzzle for all loads" engraved on it. There is no piece that says "this way for light load, high load etc."

(3) I have read that some models had adjustable friction rings for high brass/ low brass shells and others did not. This split brass piece I mention above, is it supposed to stay in place permanently braking accordingly with the shot type. Or is it best removed for shooting light loads? Does it matter? It has the same symetrical shape the entire length and does not taper on either end as I have read some frcition pieces do.
