Remington Shut Down!

I thank you all for the kind words, and I wish I could tell you specifics. Unfortunately if I did I'd be putting myself in a situation that Remington may be able to discern who I may be.

I've told you all the tip of the iceberg, and I feel alot better having vented some frustration here.

I have also been able to pay off some debts with the things some of you have purchased from me. I thank you.

Remington Employee,
First I appreciate you risking your tail to give us the real story. But please be careful not to get found out. They could likely trace your ip address or your email address and find out who you are.
As for the quality of Remingtons products I am not really qualified to speak. I am fond of the $100 870(I think it is of later production), and my grandpas 22 cal rifle from the 1950s(when they had real think barrells all the way to the end) shoots well.
For what it is worth, continue to do you best and work hard. Thank you for working in the gun industry that aids us in protecting ourselves and families.

Tropical,
The 597 is make in Mayfield KY. and the guys here in Ilion don't think much of it.

We do make some parts for the 597 here at the Ilion plant.

I own one and haven't had too many problems with it other than the crappy plastic mags (I bought 6 for like $2.95 ea.) I've since upgraded to the metal mags that are magnesium.

StinkyShoe,
I for one don't think they have anyone bright enough to "trace my IP" and if they do...they'll get a surprize because it's on someone elses name!:D Also some stuff might "disappear" from earlier posts to keep me more anon....

If your 870 had "dimples " in the mag tube then it's later production.

Intune ,
Thank you for the kind words, I do admit the workers have been feeling that all the shortcuts the company has taken since CD&R came in has hurt quality, it seems they want to coast on Remington's reputation in the marketplace. Don't get me wrong, there are some really fine examples of our work on the market.
But there have been more customer returns for repair since they've taken over.:banghead:

The 710 is an ABORTION! We had PALLETS of them come to us for repair (when they first came out) and we don't even make them here!

The others have good days and bad, I would still take the M700 over anyone elses bolt action out there other than high end guns like Weatherby or Browning.

I am impressed with Benelli's new semi auto rifle on the market, they copied the general slines of the 7400 and MODERNIZED them, although I prefer steel over aluminum for a receiver.

Really sorry to see this happen. Most of my rifles are Remingtons. All of mine are fairly old, nothing newer than 1967. I have an old single shot .22, a .308, mod. 742 and a mod. 1100 12 Ga. Hard to believe a firm as old and steeped in such history could go down the tubes like this.

I have a cherished Gamemaster 760 ... my #1 deer rifle (in .308) .... a lovely rifle, and one of so many classics from days gone by. I did hear tho that when the 7600 came out it was less an improvment and more a ''cheapening'' ..... I cannot back that up tho.

To help me keep the 760 functioning for rest of my time, I've got a spare bolt (complete with FP) and a spare action bar and coming from CDNN .... not very expensive and worth having I think.

It always grieves me when any ''homegrown'' and indiginous company .. in particular one with such a rich history and heritage ..... gets in to dire straights ... :(

Half of the problem is the union. Union = Communisim. You guys need to dump them like the worthless garbage they are. The UMW is the worst. It's slimey liquid that leaks out of the bag. And don't get involved in another union scheme.
The solution as one post pointed out for the employees to get together and buy the company.

Our "Union " got all nervous when the members voted down the contract last time, we have a 2 tier system new guys gt paid as much as $2.50 LESS than guys that had been there for a while.

There's also mre benefits for the older guys than the newer. Our union doesn't do a thing for the workers.
