Removing Live Primers

Gently. Slowly pushing 'em out with your regular decapping die works just fine.
Soaking them in lye or anything else does nothing. Even oil isn't reliable.

I use my resizing die on my press and push the primers out real slowly using steady pressure.

As far as deactivating the primers, nothing seems to work. Everything I've read says it can't be done reliably.

Has anyone every had a live primer go off when trying to remove it in their press? I would say that nobody would answer that they have. Good advice in the post. I don't accumulate them and I just toss them into the trash.

I don't know how I survived childhood but a cap buster was my favorite toy & I never wore eyes & ears. Well maybe I did but there is no pictures left to prove it. ;)

Those paper rolls of caps were much more powerful then most rifle primers. The plastic cap ones sucked. Now the newer lead free one are quite a bit more potent. Still even those aren't going to hurt you contained in the press.

I've had them go off seating them. It's really not a big deal.
