Bought a new Beretta Urika 391 yesterday. Took it to the range today and after about 75 rounds the front bead fell off. I'm a little ticked to say the least especially since this is a brand new gun, but since I'm having to replace it now is as good a time as any to upgrade. Gun is only used to shoot sporting clays, skeet and a little trap. All suggestions welcomed.

Why replace it? (I know, it's a new gun.) I bought a used SX-2 Waterfowl a few years ago and it had a spiffy new, large fiber optic sight on it. I think it was a turkey gun in the moutains. One day sitting in the floating blind waiting on the geese I got real tired of looking at it and took it off. Shotguns work just fine with no beads or sights. I still haven't replaced it and keep meaning to fill the hole.

Note, of course, that a brand-new Beretta is under warranty. They should fix it.

I've only changed the bead on one shotgun, ever. It was a fiber bead, with the mount brazed onto the rib. I paid to have it removed, and replaced with a simple brass bead. This was after a very frustrating miss when hunting, when the glowing POS on the end of my barrel distracted my focus from the flapping pheasant. I'd had enough of the thing.

The bead does serve a purpose: quick subconscious verification of the mount. It's NOT a sight, for the reasons JohnBT and oneounceload detail above.

Advice much appreciated. Beretta is sending me a replacement bead and I'm gonna stick with that rather than go more "high-tech". Thanks again

"The bead does serve a purpose:"

It keeps the gun from falling over when you prop it against a tree or fence post. That's what my father, uncle and great uncle all said. I can't remember what my grandfather said, he was a man of few words. He could stack loaded apple barrels three high in a box car all by himself so you didn't bug him with too many questions. ;)
