Retail Powder Prices (Ouch)

Between working Friday morning and then heading to the funeral that afternoon I have 9 or 11 counties to cover. Of course most have more cows than people. Try to catch sportsman’s too.
I try to hit three or four shops within a hundred miles in a day. It’s a little optimistic. This time of year the roads are crowded with snowbirds driving 20MPH under the speed limit in the passing lanes. I75 will be a parking lot coming into Ocala and The Villages. There’s a place on SR40 I’ve been meaning to check out but it’s right on the 100mi cusp - that translates to 2hr there and 2hr back if I put some foot in the floorboards.

I got a couple Aunties and Uncles in The Villages………
Hmmmmmm………….maybe a cup o’ coffee sometime…….
I never say no to a good cup a Jo! :

I was just over there yesterday with an infrastructure team doing some eval work. Stopped off at Ramshackle for lunch and then up to Leesburg. It’s a nice area to retire but it can take an hour to drive 5 miles at the wrong time of day.
I think we got passed by the same little old lady in a golf cart twice.
On I75. o_O

For shooting enthusiasts, when there’s a garage sale or “estate sale” sign up, at least make an effort to drive by. I’ve found some interesting items over the years in that area. I’m hoping to have time to hit Ocala Armory. I haven’t been there in some time.

Went into a small gun shop while I'm here in California. Had Unique and Varget on the shelf. All powders were marked at 70.00 a pound. I gotta get back to Colorado where I belong. Country road take me home!
I think Country Road was about West Virginia. 😂 I long for the country roads in Rockingham North Caroline. Ed’s Gun Shop is right down the road. Always had good prices too

In my opinion this is one of my favorite gun shops I've been in. While the prices aren't the lowest on reloading supplies, they seem to have decent prices and a great selection.

then you know Ed’s!

I ask him once, what was your biggest gun dealer mistake. “I got a bunch of imported H&K P7 in a crate, Sold them for $399”

That's the type of excuse a lot of us use to throw a leg over the bike and go for a ride.... the bike excuse makes the gas free 🤣

I did that a few times in my 20’s, ended up once sleeping on a beach on Oakacrock Island. BTW a Glock 23 won’t stop ghost crabs from trying to eat you.

Those were the LE Surplus ones from Germany. That was the going price for them...maybe a little more.

I'll bet he didn't understand the market and thought he could sell them for close to the $750 MSRP of the new ones...because new ones were hard to get

You’re not kidding. $350 is what I paid for a new P7/M8 in 1985. They were “exotic” 🤣

My 12 county trip netted me 200 federal match large rifle primers and 200 30!Cal 110 Vmax, as well as a varied assortment of nylon cleaning brushes that I can find nowhere for some reason. For about 70 bucks. I’m calling it a win. I left some pounds of green dot, sport pistol, power pistol, ar comp,&…. Only so much $$$ to spread around. Some was pushing $80 a lb.
ETA: The $80 stuff was at sportsman’s.

OMG!! Glad I stocked up a while ago.

Maybe we'll all get lucky and prices will come down.

I think I better by some bullets before they go through the roof too!

I bought 8-10 pounds BL-C(2) @ $25 or $28 a pound, at the beginning of the plandemic at Cablelas. Sale person said, “last shortage there was no powder but lots of primers, I would buy as much powder as possible”

How much was the gas?

So I'll throw in my 2 cents (more like 1 cent with inflation)... so I have noticed a fair bit of increase in cost for dad and I's FFL cost on powder from Chattanooga basically depending on what exactly we are looking up, some other retailer sites like Powder Valley and such have similar or cheaper prices.... No large rifle primers ever come in stock from Chattanooga and the small rifle and small pistol primers are around 80-100 a brick which is kinda dumb cause that's supposedly wholesale when I see other shops online selling for 60-80 retail so idk what to think about that. Sigh... oh yeah Chattanooga had 8lb jugs of Reloader 16 for the low low price of 445 bucks.... so we didn't buy any lol. If they were reasonable we probably would have gotten a few cause people seem to love the Reloader line of powder a lot. So basically what I'm getting at is, we are choosing to not buy this stuff cause we aren't made out of money and our customers aren't either lol. I hate shops that buy stuff and then mark it up another dumb amount and act like they are doing you a favor by having it on their shelf... idk how they stay in business while honest people like us struggle to even move inventory.

I stopped by a local shop recently, 3N37 was $37, other pistol and shotgun powders was $40-45, rifle was mostly $50 with Varget being $60. They also had some Fiocchi SR primers 750 for $50. I purchased some things for a friend and thanked them for having stuff in stock. I looked online and will stop by next week and get a couple of lbs of the 3n37 to try in 40s&w and 44mag to save some of my other powders for other handgun calibers.
