Revolver or semiautomatic

"The .40 revolver would be a convertible for me is the only thing I would add/change."

I would love to have a Blackhawk convertible that would take 40 caliber. If I ran across a used CA Pitbull in 40 caliber I would probably "settle" for it, though. My 44 special and 45acp versions are good snubbies.

"Revolver. Because I still don’t have a Colt."

FWIW, I also wanted a Colt revolver just to have a Colt revolver. This was just 2-3 years ago and funds were tight for me. I found a decent Colt Army Special (38 special) from 1921 or so that only cost me around $300. It's a good shooter (must have sat in a sock drawer for a long time) and a fun range toy.

Last night the fridge decided that it wanted to signal it's retirement. I wouldn't mind a Springfield 1911 Loaded Operator or Tactical Response Pistol for the $ spent instead. If CA weren't cut off: Sig P320, P229 Legion, HK VP9 and S&W MP 2.0 Compact come to mind as my other options. If you like a wheel gun the pre-lock S&W 686's. The Python.

If you were going to buy a new handgun would you buy a revolver or semiautomatic? And why would you choose that particular handgun?

Yes, of course, I would consider a revolver or semiautomatic. I have liked both, since at least the early Eighties.

I have reached the age at which I have to consider that my hands and arms are not aging well, particularly my right thumb, right wrist, and right shoulder. So, I select “old man guns,” but that does not mean small, lightweight weapons. I can still carry duty-sized handguns, and if selected properly, they hurt less, when shooting, than most small and medium handguns. A Glock Gen4 G17 is a nicely orthopedic, ambidextrous weapon.

I am functionally ambidextrous with most handguns, so shooting lefty remains a very viable option, except that my right hand does not always work so well, when I want to use it to run a slide. So, if an auto-loader, I look for plenty of real estate for grasping the slide, and a degree of lefty-friendliness, which does NOT necessarily mean an “ambidextrous” slide latch lever, which tends to get in my way, and, does NOT mean a reversible mag release button. I have been using my left index finger to push mag release buttons, since 1982 or 1983, when shooting lefty.

I will tend to select a handgun with a low bore axis, to reduce muzzle flip. Muzzle flip hurts my right wrist, whether my right hand is my weapon hand, or support hand. I love “classic” SIG pistols, but a high bore axis seems to be a common design characteristic of most SIG pistols, including the newer P320. I have kept only one SIG, for nostalgic reasons, my P220R DAK, my companion on police patrol from 2004 to 2015, but which was a torture device from 2011 onward, shooting the then-mandated .40 S&W duty cartridge. Being able to switch to 9mm for a duty cartridge, in a lower-bire-axis Glock G17, made life much more pleasant.

I probably have enough handguns, by now, to last a lifetime, though I may well buy a few more, on occasion. The above criteria drove my recent purchases: Glock G17 and G19x, full-sized 1911, and Ruger GP100 and Super GP100.

Right at this moment, I would choose a.........

.......Ruger Single Six hunter edition. 22lr/wmr with matching scope.
My reasoning?
I think I would get great enjoyment plinking with it, and hunting small game with it. It might become my truck/tractor/combine gun. I am already heavily invested in .22magnum and have a good supply of ammo.

I just picked up a revolver Monday. It's a Kimber K6s that's going to replace my Kahr MK9 as my carry piece. I was never comfortable with the Kahr in the appendix position, but I know from when I used to carry an SP101 that a revolver there doesn't bother me.

Who knows what my next handgun will be. I'd love to have a SIG P220 as a range toy. But there's also a Blackhawk that a local pawn shop has had for awhile I keep eyeing.

Revolver! Because the gun I want right now is a revolver.

It is a 10 shot .22LR revolver. It looks like it would be a lot of fun. I have another .22LR revolver by the same maker and enjoy it a lot. No ammo pickiness like you see with some .22LR autopistols and it's great trigger practice if you shoot it DA.
I have a High Standard Sentinel that is exactly that and you're right, it's a ton of fun to shoot and cheaper than the centerfires.
Had a friend who, when giving CWP classes often borrowed it for her student's range time. As part of the class she provided the gun and ammo for the range time and it was lots cheaper for her to provide double deuce ammo than 9mm for her CZ.

The handgun will be my everyday carry gun. I have been looking at the Ruger GP100 lineup and the Ruger SR1911 .45ACP

I currently own 9 semi autos, 5 revolvers, & 2 single shots.

my last purchase was a very nice semi, and I have been really thinking that I want somethin in a 32H&R magnum, I will probably be getting a new revolver once the world starts spinning in thee right direction again.
Unless I run across a good deal on another Contender!

As a revolver guy, I sure like the SAs. However, as a reloader, the revolvers have it all over the semi-autos. You can load pussy-cat target loads to barn burners and everything in between with any bullet profile you choose and they'll work. Great guns for the reloader/experimenter. Few SAs will permit anything approaching this level of versatility.

I do have a BHP MkII that lets me get away with a lot. I've taken to loading target loads that group the empty cases within 10 inches to the right of my right foot. They are undoubtedly weak, but when there's snow on the ground, they save a lot of pawing through the white stuff to find brass.

I would buy either one if the "right deal" came along. I like both of them. Right now I'm not looking for anything. I have what I like to shoot now. IMG_20180926_070318436.jpg IMG_20181016_185239143_HDR.jpg IMG_20190924_145536317.jpg IMG_20181121_101543270.jpg

I'm on a revolver kick lately, so on deck is the Smith & Wesson 610. I already shoot a 10mm in a 1911 platform, so it makes sense to me to share her ammo with a revolver. And the 610 can also run 40 S&W of which is also plentiful in my stock.

I have a revolver so I guess another automatic. Probably another CZ. Maybe a compact so I can put the bayonet on it. LOL!

If you were going to buy a new handgun would you buy a revolver or semiautomatic? And why would you choose that particular handgun?

Most of my purchases are impulse buys, but I do have an eye out for sock drawer handguns of either style.
Now constrained to buying a new handgun I would go semi-auto. Because any of the new polymer pistols will be a better value with more capacity than a revolver.

I think semi autos are more fun to shoot. But revolvers are more beautiful, and more practical. So, it really depends on which side of the bed I wake up on.

Both really. But I’ve enough auto loaders till it’s time to get another 1911. But I do need a 442 and model 10 you know for science and a 44 special bulldog for the money and a nickel Ruger vaquero for the show or a stainless one... so yeah I can’t help you decide I’m trying to sell plasma to get there faster. I need them all.
