Revolver or semiautomatic

Last 2 handguns I bought were revolvers. Why? I had only semi autos up to that point and had never shot a revolver. To try something new, I found a deal on a 4 inch GP100 in .357, bought it, shot it, loved it. Wasn't really looking for another gun, but a buddy asked me to go with him to pick up his new Cz75 from the LGS, while in there a Colt King Cobra Target was sitting in the bottom of a display case all by it's lonesome. I went back 2 days later and bought it. My next handgun will likely be another revolver, I really want a .44 magnum, specifically some form of an m29 (not sure if I want 4, 6, or 6.5 inch on the barrel); next purchase will be that or the new Zastava ZPAP with 1.5 mm receiver and chrome lined barrel; I love AKs as well :)

Depends. Most needs are already well met. As for wants, it depends on the day, what I find or what I'm looking for. Today it was a Beretta M9A3 but was almost a Sig X-Five. Any other day it might've been the 6" 629.

My two most recent purchases were on the same day. I bought a DW Razorback 10mm and a S&W 25-9 in .45 Colt. Why? Because I like revolvers and 1911s, I like 10mm and .45 Colt, they were both priced decently, and I had a desire to own them. Great country we live in!

I'd end up buying another revolver. My dad has all of the auto-loaders which are neat guns but I prefer to have something that I know is going to go bang when I pull the trigger.

Do you really believe that a good semi-auto with good ammunition cannot be relied upon to save your life in the gravest extreme?

Other considerations include such things as how quickly on can put how many rounds into a moving target or two. Capacity and trigger pull figure into those questions.

I don't NEED anything now. However I've got a hankering for a Mossberg MC2. Also thinking about a police trade in G23. Also possibly a Colt King Cobra 3".

I guess if I do buy a new gun it will be a Revolver. Why, because they are fun! I have too many semi's already. The more time goes on the more I seem to be morphing to the simplicity of Revolver, And the last time I checked, I am not military or Police. Actually could care less what they carry. Quite frankly get tired of the redundant internet post that always seem to go South with which is better. They both have their roles. Both enjoyed by myself and others.

This argument about which is better is older than dirt. Elmer Keith wrote a chapter on this subject in “Sixguns”. As long as there are 2 people discussing this there will be a difference of opinion.

I was LE with a revolver, then military with an auto, then back to LE with an auto. I trained enough with both types to be comfortable with either. It’s almost still a free country, so make your own choice.

If I were to buy a serious belt carried SD gun, it would be 9 mm unless I needed a pocket gun for limited carry circumstances. That might be a J frame of some sort.

For entertainment and some competition, I might be a revolver that catches my eye. I always wanted a snubby SW Model 66. Just because. It could be used as a carry gun, given my well known qualms about capacity. But I wouldn't buy it for that.

One thing to note that I was reminded of in another thread on the .357.
Revolvers can handle a greater range of bullet weights and loads and do well with them, then in general semis can. You can not only use bullets and develop loads of varying weight and power for revolvers you can also do that with a wide variety of bullet weights. In the case of the 357 Magnum that might be weights of 90 grs to 200 grs and do well with those for different tasks from varmint rounds to hunting bear or elk.

Semis generally operate best and most reliably with a narrower range of bullet weights. You can adjust for that, to some extent, by changing recoil springs and a few more adjustments, possibly. But in general it's true.

My next purchase will be a semi auto carry gun, or a Colt Python, or a Ruger single Ten, or a 1911 commander size. If any of these get dragged past my nose in the next couple of weeks, I'm likely to make a buy. I was recently blindsided by my daughter's Summer tuition. Which I told her in a very upset manor, "I could have bought 6 Dan Wessons with that money!!". Surprisingly she didn't seem to care.

Some of today's kids have yet to realize the value of (and COST of) money. They seem to think their parents are never-ending fountains of the stuff.

Yeah. That's why the police and military still use revolvers. Oh, wait....

There are quite a few in the 2 groups you referenced that could not carry a decent .357, .44 or .45.

Much less shoot them.

They have both had to succomb to euro pellets due to the demographics of the groups.

I carry a 9 at times - no i don't want to get shot by it (or even a .22).

Do others want to get shot by a .357?

So cool! I’d never heard of the Mateba. I found one here:

but even though it’s a lot less than a Webley-Fosbury, it’s still too high for me.

Yeah. They've gone up in price. Back in the late 1990s you could pick them up from CDNN for around $600.

Supposedly there's some outfit that's trying to start importing them again.
