Ok folks, a friend of mine and I read about this Match and we thought "hey, that would be fun to do. " So we're planning to enter into it in a year or two, but until then we want to start getting our gear together. My question for you is, what is the most durable and most accurate way to bed a bolt action rifle? or would I be better off not bedding it? I ask because i have a m700SA in .308 that i'll be working on to use for this match, and I'd like to get a new stock for it. Currently it is aluminum bedded if my eyes serve me right.

Thanks.

Arguably to get the most accuracy out of your bolt action rifle, it should be mated to a stock that has the one piece aluminum block built right into the stock.

Some people then even go so far as having the action further glass bedded into the aluminum block/stock. I personally think this is not necessary except in ultra accurate bench rest guns.

Some people prefer "Pillar Bedding". This is when there are 2 aluminum pillars that support the action at the front and rear action screws.

And then there's of course just basic glass bedding. If your guns action is in a basic wood or synthetic stock then this would help improve accuracy.

If your stock already has the sloid built in aluminum block then I'd suggest that's about as good as its gonna get accuracy wise. Be sure to check if the barrel is free floated. If not I'd free float the barrel regardless how the action is in the stock.

HTH,

Rob
