I am looking for a good cheap rifle case for my surplus guns. Does anyone have any good recommendations for some? Looking in the less than $30 range and large enough for my Mauser/Enfield/Mosin (carbine and rifle).

A dual hardshell rifle case like sold at Sportsmans warehouse or Walmart will work and be around your price range. You can sometimes find used ones at pawn shops and such for 1/2 price.

depends on your humidity situation, the double cases as described are very good in fact we use em for shipping our custom guns in HOWEVER if there is any moisture in the air the foam/plastic will trap it in with your gun as they don't breath at all, we usually put the custom stuff like AKs and FALs ARs G3s etc... in a gunsock then a plastic sleeve over it we then put a shop vac on the plastic sleeve to suck out all the air then seal it prior to placing it inside the hard case for shipping as we cannot control the enviroments it will be exposed to and dramatic temperature changes in a semi trailer etc... while en rout before going to these extra steps guns would arrive with minor surface rust to destinations in some parts of the country. I own a trucking company and it did not take me long to figure out what was happening.... they all arive perfect now.

Depending on where you live ya may need to at least add a gunsock as well as some dessicant packs inside the case just for added protection...

I prefer softshell cases. Gander Mountain sells a long, softshell case for about $20 which easily holds my Mosin 91/30.

I use the silicone inpregnated gunsocks that cost about $4/ea. They have a tie on the end so that they can be tied shut and be legally used for transport.

You know the manufacturer? Or if I can buy online? The closest store is 1hr away.

It's their store brand with their name printed on it. Don't know who makes it.

Gander Mountain doesn't do online sales, but you should be able to buy similar from Cabelas or Bass Pro. Just get the 52" shotgun case as the Mosin 91/30 is 49" long.

I'm not sure what your intended use is, but I wouldn't store your guns in these foam lined cases, hard or soft shell.

Like dstorm1911 said, they can promote rust. I left a gun in one just 24 hours in what I thought was dry weather. When I retrieved it, it has surface rust. Luckily this particular gun was parkerized so it wasn't extremely noticeable once I cleaned it up.

I use something like this but I can't remember the brand of mine. It works fine just to carry guns to the range without them getting banged up in the truck.

I don't store the guns in them. Only for travel. The only guns I store in cases are in pelican cases and have silica inside of the sealed cases. But thanks for the advice.

Check out a jump bag I see them as low as $20 at gunshows. This is what the airborne troops put rifles in when they jump from planes. They are green canvas with a padded liner. Pretty stiff but work great.
