I got my first two cans in finally after the feds got done sitting on the paperwork. I handload most of my ammo and my question is this: How do the exposed lead bases of RMR projectiles play with a can?

I am concerned about lead deposits in my cans as they are sealed. For this reason I am gonna stay away from lead and coated lead.

Anyone got a favorite projectile for a can in 9mm, 38 special, and 45 ACP?

I realize you stated no lead or coated lead….

All I run in my suppressors is coated lead, and a few plated……

Then again, most of mine are user serviceable but they accumulate much more carbon than lead………

Two useless cents worth….. :)

Glad you got your new toys tho…!!

Which brand of coated do ya use? Or do ya roll your own?

You have 2 sealed pistol caliber cans? Are they rated for any rifles? If so, you may be able to "blow" them out with a few rifle rounds every so often.

I would weigh then before you shoot anything and make note of their weight so you know if they are building up or not.

I have been shooting exposed lead jacketed bullet and coated lead bullets through my cans for 15+ years. No problems at all.

In fact, my hard use cans see several thousand rounds of 55 gn FMJ bullets (with exposed lead bases) every year and they are still fine.

Gallant used to make really good coated bullets but the QC went in the garbage. Blue bullets and SNS are really good choices.

That is a really good idea. Both are rifle rated so that helps. Got an osprey 45 on order that isn't though

I've loaded RMR 147 grain 9mm specifically to run subs with a can, no issues at all.

That has some effect on carbon deposits, but it won't help with lead that has fused to the internals.

Chemicals are the only thing that will get it out. But plated bullets shouldn't leave any lead deposits unless it's ridiculously thin. Most of the lead deposits in a suppressor come from the flame front vaporizing it off the base, not from what is shed off the circumference.
