RRA Elite CAR review
Picked up a new AR today and wanted to give my initial review. It is a RRA Elite CAR model AR1230.
To start with, it comes in its own hard case. This is nice as of lately everything has been cardboard. It has two buckle style latches. It is secure and comes with a good sized carry handle suitable for gloves. Inside is typical foam paddig that has been tacked down with glue. An owners manual, lock and safety flag come with it.
Overall fit and finish of the gun shows a nice dark black finish that is smooth to the touch and is even across the entire gun. This particular model is a mid length gas system with M4 style double shielded handguard. The handguard is secure and rattle free. There is an A2 style front post and A2 flash hider. The barrel is of the heavy variety and has no accommodations for an M203 grenade launcher, not that is need it anyhow.
Upper to lower fit is snug with no vertical or horizontal play.
Trigger is typical Rock river 2 stage and breaks cleanly at 6#10 ounces on my Lyman digital scale.
Handgrip is of hogue variety and is a major plus for me over the typical A2 hard plastic style. It is grippy without being annoying.
Stock is typical 6 position. It does not rattle and is solid with no rotational play.
Inside there is a properly staked gas key, M4 feed ramps and a chrome lined barrel. It was quite dry from the factory. A quick wipe down and lube was performed.
Stock magazine is typical GI aluminum made by NHMTG. It functioned flawlessly.
Shooting impressions: today was a functional test. I centered the rear sight which was on the included RRA tactical mount. It was close enough for plinking to 100 yards but needs some fine tuning out to 200. I was able to use the factory mag and 4 Pmags without incident. They all loaded, shot and ejected fine.
This is reportedly expected to be a 1 MOA rifle from the factory. Can't wait to get an optic on this and starting load development for some varmint shooting. Stay posted!
