I finally have a Pawn Shop find to share.

Y'all are always netting cool rigs at reasonable $$$

I now have a .357 Mag worth playing with.
Serial number puts it at 1973

The down side... I can't even buy brass for the silly thing.
I load lot a ton of .38spl, but haven't worried about the .357

I have .357 "truck guns", but I just have some boxes of ammo for them.

Back story is below.

I'm honestly not much of a Pawn Shop guy because the ones around me usually have garbage and it are over priced.

There is one down the road that got bought out and re-opened and named:
Guns & Gold

I had to go in to see if they actually had any decent hardware and how insane the prices were.

They were nice and said let me know if you want to pull anything out of the case.
I thought I already knew I didn't need to see anything.

The rifles in the rack and pistols in the case seemed to be priced at what I would consider "far market value" in the normal world.
Nothing seemed escalated.

I saw that they had a Ruger .357 Blackhawk with a decent price tag.
Ignoring my better judgement, I asked to see it.

It was (is) a nice piece.

I played with it for a minute, doing my best to check for issues.

He said he could work with the price if I was interested.
He said He'd take $399.00 for it.

I asked how long it had been in the case.
It had been there 2 days with a lot of lookers. (Could be BS, but who knows)
This was a Tuesday.

I couldn't walk away from it.

I didn't steal it, but it was a good price for what I was holding in my opinion.

Congratulations! I really like mine.

It sounds like the Lake Cities area?

The shop is officially in Pantego or Dalworthington Gardens, depending on how they sit on the line.
Basically, Arlington Texas.

I met the new owner. He is a long time firearm enthusiast and has been through past "scares".
He knows what happens to price gougers.
It was refreshing to see someone looking long term into building a positive reputation, for lack of a better term.

I got one recently: blued Blackhawk 357 with the longer barrel which I prefer. Looked like it had been shot very little. Paid about your price, maybe a tad less, so I got darn lucky. Congratulations on a good find. A decent price for any good firearm is getting to be a rare experience. Good luck finding reloading components.

nice find, dredd. blackhawks have a problem with loose screws. i use blue loctite on all the screws on all my blackhawks, even my 1973 blackhawk in 357 magnum.

enjoy that fine wheel gun,

murf

That’s about half what good ones have been going for on GB for a couple months. Nice find. I’ve never found a good deal on a pistol at a pawn shop. Not once.

I appreciate the replies / advice.

I will keep an eye on the screws. That is good to know.
I wish they made Blue Loctite for me!!!

I have Primers, Powder and what might be an "ok" bullet.
It's a 158/gr Copper Plated Hollow Point from Xtreme that I load in my 38spl's.
I'm working on rounding up some Brass.

I will dig through the Reloading Forum and see what good ideas I can come up with.

I wish I could post pics, but they are on my phone.
My email went goofy on the phone, so can't send them to my computer.
I'm not sure if I even know or remember how to deal with this darn MAC that we have. LOL:confused:

I love wheel guns & single actions.
I was probably doomed as soon as I picked it up.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Dredd. Thanks for the heads up on a new shop to check out. I’m not far from them since I’m in Burleson south of Ft Worth. You will like that gun. I had one about 10 years ago with both cylinders. I wish I hadn’t sold it.

I’ve got 4 pawnshops that I visit every 3 weeks or so. 9 times out of 10 I walk out empty handed but every once in a while I get a really good deal.
Last week I had a great day. I bought a really nice S&W Model 36 and then as an afterthought visited one more shop before heading home. On the rack was a really nice Savage 24B DL. I have a couple of 24s but I’ve been wanting a Deluxe. And it was in 22/410. My others are .22/20. I got it at a super price.

Spend a few bucks every week at pawnshops and hang a around and chat. They will remember you and get to know you. And will come down on price 9/10 time's. They buy them for half to a quarter of the MSRP. Also having cash helps alot. No cards cash is king. This was in the before time's. Now adays everything is different.

Is it a 3-screw? If it is, does it have the transfer bar?

Good buy of either type at that price.

It's the New Model / 2 Pin with Transfer Bar.

I'm looking forward to playing with it.

I am working on scrounging up some brass.
I picked up 45 pieces from a buddy today and should have more coming from another good friend that I load and shoot with.

I know I can shoot 38's out of it, but...... I want to put .357's thru it :D

Congratulations! Fortuitous find, and good price!

I would love to find a dual-cylinder Blackhawk, because I have much more 9mm than .38 or .357, at this time, as I had refreshed my 9mm stock in early 2020, just before the panic hit. When I had the cash to refresh .38 and .357, I couldn’t find much to buy.
