Picked up a Ruger EC9S a couple weeks ago. Going to carry it once I get my CPL. Put about 250 rounds through it so far at the range. No issues or malfunctions. Practicing 7-10 yards. Very fun gun, easy to shoot and operate, and small enough to fit in my pocket. Seems like a very nice gun for the money.

I didn't care for the original LC9, and didn't keep it long. But had a LC9s for a while and liked it a lot. The LC9s is essentially the same pistol, I think the only difference is the front sight. I sold mine after buying a Sig 365, but the Sig was about 2 1/2 times more expensive. I like the Sig a little better and the price difference was something I didn't mind. But the truth is that I didn't feel any less protected with the Ruger. I think you're going to like it.

My LC9s Pro has no safety and no mag interlock. Perfect. Apparently that model is NLA from Ruger, but that just makes me more glad that I got mine when I did.

+1 I like my LC9s Pro as well. Have no problem hitting my backyard 25yd gongs with it.

I also picked up and sold off a Sig P365 and S&W Shield. Didn't care for either. The Sig had everything I could want - small size, capacity, and reliability. I just couldn't hit anything with it.

Couldn't get used to the S&W Shield trigger and being left handed didn't like the right hand only thumb safety.

Side note, I picked up a 9rd EC9/LC9 mag over the weekend. Didn't know they made and extended cap mag.

I have had an EC9s on my GB watch list for a while now. I just haven't made up my mind if I need yet another gun. And you aren't helping. Just a few weeks ago these were selling fast. One place had 16 of them that sold in just a couple of days. The place I am watching now had around 15 and sold down to 9 in stock and has been at the number for well over a week. Maybe things are slowing down.

But they look good to me. I may still get one. Its just that I like my 442 so much. I have a Taurus TCP 738 in 380 I like but don't much care for the 380 round. I like the idea of a small 9mm. And I have lots of 9mm ammo on hand.

"My LC9s Pro has no safety and no mag interlock."
I have the same gun. It's a nice handgun and the EC9S is great value.
They are slim, so they carry easily. The trigger on mine is good except that the reset is quite long.
On the negative side, the slide corrodes very easily. The high bore makes it snappier than comparable models.
I consider my Sig P365 to be superior in every way so I never carry the LC9s anymore.

I have a Shield in .40 S&W, a G43, and a Ruger LC9s.

THE FORGOTTEN CONCEAL CARRY SINGLE STACK 9MM OF THE 2010S.

With an era of hyper capacity ultra sub-compacts like the Sig Sauer P365 and the Springfield Armory Hellcat. Guns like the GLOCK 43, S&W Shield, and Kahr PM9 have all been pushed to the wayside as the best CCW piece you can lug around. But before the advent of the Superior Übermensch Pistols that have graced us. The brief window that existed for these single stack polymer framed 9mm sub-compacts were a glorious and exciting time. It was like reliving the introduction of guns like the S&W 3913 and Sig P239 all over again. Except with less weight and cheaper prices.
But there is one gun from that era that many seem to have forgotten about. A little pistol that could, a gun brought forth into the world on two thousandth and eleventh year of our Lord at the holy mecca of all things guns, SHOT Show.

Yes folks, today we're talking about the Ruger LC9. Originally a upscaled LCP and chambered in 9mm. The LC9 was not a bad gun. But it had a lot going against. Mostly the horrid DAO trigger. Sure, for the LCP that trigger was okay since it was in reality a belly gun. You wouldn't take a LCP out and do 25 yard bullseye shooting with it. But for the LC9, yeah, it was a problem.

But luckily, the good idea fairy came and bashed someone's brain at Ruger and whispered into the ear of the concussion laden engineer the follow. "Make it a striker fired gun you dummy, because if you don't. I'll hit with twice as hard with a pipe wrench next time." And so the best little forgotten gun was made.

Ruger made the LC9s and LC9s Pro. Which as a GLOCK fan, I'm about to mention heresy. I think it is a damn good little gun!

So what's the different between the two LC9s guns you ask? The Pro doesn't have a magazine safety and manual safety. Other than that, they're the damn same thing.

image.png

Weighing in at 17.2 oz and having a width of 0.90", a height of 4.50", and a overall length of 6". The LC9s is not that bad of a gun, especially with its factory 7+1 capacity and the ability to use factory 9rd extended mags for it.

image.png

I think the ergos beat the S&W Shield hands down. It is just a slick little gun with melted edges.

image.png

As you see, mine is slick. It sure beats my Shield.

image.png

And I'd say even though it is slightly bigger than my G43, it isn't a bad carry gun. Especially since it is a factory 7+1, while the G43 is a 6+1.

The trigger pull is not bad at all, it has good sights, and the quality that goes into the gun is better than what you'd expect. Slick Guns shows that they're hovering around the $450 price give or take a couple of bucks. That's the same price point that the S&W Shields are going for.

So with all the insanity that is 2020 and the mad rush for anything and everything self defense related. They aren't a bad deal.

If you can live with fixed sights the EC9s is selling for $279 on gunbroker. At least the ones I have on my watch list are. And for me fixed sights are just fine.

One thing I am curious about is per the Shop Ruger list the floor plate can have the extended finger rest removed so you have a flat bottom on the magazine. Am I understanding that correctly? If so can you post a picture of the mag without the finger rest installed? If its not too much trouble that is?

I have 2 flat base plate 7rd mags. With the 9rd mag the base plate = the 2rd extension.
I don't see a metal base plate.

So to answer your question, yes you can skip the finger extension and use a flat base plate.

I have one and my only real complaint is that it reacts with my sweat the way most blued Rugers do...it pits. Not a big issue. For a $248 gun, it has been flawless. Easy to carry, shoots pretty well if a bit snappy. My Shield 45 basically replaced it as I find it easier to shoot, has a bit more thump in caliber, and the finish has not reacted to my sweat. The EC9S has become a reliable little back up. Actually, it's the only 9mm I still own. It's well build with few things to go wrong with it. Magazines are cheap and easy to obtain. It gets the job done and doesn't cost a fortune to do so.

I actually rather like and prefer the single stack guns over the newer ones that jam 10 rounds into the same frame. They just feel better in my hand, balanced maybe? I like the concept of the EC9S enough that I may pick up a Glock 42 or 43 the first part of the year if ammo availability settles out. For now, I'll carry my Shield, but the little EC9S is tucked away in my emergency go-bag with a bit of emergency supplies. Honestly, a light, some money, a way to make fire, a tool, a bit of cord, and a small 9mm with an extra magazine fits in a bag no bigger than one of my wife's summer purses.

I started off with a single stack 9mm for my first gun in that caliber. A S&W model 39-2 that I still have. I will never sell it. Its just too reliable and accurate. I mean its like target pistol accurate. I'm not a huge 9mm fan but I don't care much for 45acp either. I like my 38 and 357 revolvers but I'm sure not opposed to owning a few autos. I now have 5 9mm pistols. That should be enough.

Thanks Drobs. I think you just caused me to buy a new gun. I like that much better than the pinky rest.

I like the flat base plates myself - easier to pocket carry.

My winter pocket carry pistol is an LC9S Pro. I added a set of Hi Viz fiber optic sights. They made a great gun even better for my old eyes.

I'm exactly opposite. My LC9S Pro is my summer pocket carry gun. I find it disappears in the pocket of my cargo shorts with a pocket holster and spare mag, all in the same pocket.

Wintertime - I OWB one of my Glocks. Though I did just order this OWB Kydex holster for my Ruger.

I was considering the Sig P365, but it was way more expensive. I just wanted a nice compact gun that was reliable at an affordable price. The P365 was $599 when I was looking vs the $279 I paid for the EC9S.

My wife and I went to the range last weekend. She said the gun was a bit snappy for her, hurt her wrist after 30-40 rounds. But she said she likes it. Good enough for her to carry.

I put over 100 rounds through it last time I went and my wrist/hand was fine. Maybe her grip wasn’t right or something? Didn’t seem to bother me at all.

They also had the LC9S with adjustable sights but it was nearly $175 more. The fixed sights are just fine for me. I only shoot to 10 yards with this gun, just self defense type range, and they seem just fine for that.

Overall, very happy with the gun. I have a couple other Ruger rifles that have been great as well. They seem to make a nice quality product at a fair price.
